Too right we have. I think the only time they are officially accountable to the public (I mean by prior arrangement) is their annual report. Don't know when that is.

Ehhhh since i dont actually have a tv license maybe i shouldnt email. As far as I understand things the Beeb are really only accountable when their license is renewed which happens every ten years or so i think. its only recently been renewed this time round

I actually am a little bit more optomistic with the new direct general action plan. He wants to enhance Drama and also get right for programes for the public interest - The news have showcased Sporting events like Wimbledon as high in the "Public interest" category - I think Boxing should be aswell, the Heavyweight champion should be the most famous athlete on the planet and the heavyweight championship is still a public event.

I sent an email to Jim Bentley at BBC boxing, who I believe is the top boy, and quel surprise, no reply!

I think licence renewal is coming round soon.


Essentially this is a service which they're asking us to pay for, then tell us what it's going to be. I'm not going to jack in my TV for them not having boxing, but the principle is that I might, I'm just being denied this information. Schedules wouldn't be practical, but a statement of intent would do.

I've got a couple of mates who work at the Beeb, I'll see what they say.

Yes, I believe it is, they mentioned it on Five Live the other day, but was only half listening!

What a shame you have pulled the plug on Boxing on the BBC, I throughly enjoyed your coverage over the past years and while I realise there maybe some commercial constraints here its a massive pity that there can be no slot found for this once great sport other than 11.55 on Sunday night.
One suggests that if you were to give the sport a real fair trial then reasonable scheduling would pull in the non hardcore-boxing fan, but who unless they are a boxing nut would stay up so late. Its also a massive shame as I feel that with the correct exposure and scheduling the Beeb could have put boxing back on the map and done a great deal of good for the Sport, instead what we now have is the monopoly of Sky / Sports Network given a carte blanche as far as televised bouts are concerned, you could have made a difference......shame you chose not to.


I'll look forward to whatever repeats you choose to put in its place (groan)

Nice one. I think we are watching the slow death of boxing on terrestrial TV, because they show it less and less, the viewing figures will continue to decline until there is no justification for them to show it, unless something is done to nip it in the bud now.

Every sport needs to attract new fans, and boxing just isn't doing that enough.

its madenss showing it at some god forsaken hour and expecting viewing figs of miullions, show it live, show it on bbc2 live at 8 o clock on a sat or friday night then make a friggin decision.
Not some half assed attempt to showcase it at gone midnite. Even an idiot can tell you that wont attact anyone but the die hards.
then again this is the bbc.

Trouble is for BBC sport, how are they going to convince the higher eschelons of the BBC to take a chance on it, when people are going to write in in their thousands complaining that they haven't got their re-run of Midsomer murders/only fools and horses.
