Really? That was hard enough for a fan to swallow, can't imagine a non-fan converting knowing that Gerald is now deaf, blind and has his arse wiped by his sister every day.littlepug wrote:benn v mclellan and chavez v taylor, under no circumstances show nelson v de leon
I'd go for Hagler - Hearns as a classic with Littles - Lyles and Ouali - Saldiva as examples of interesting fights that come around reasonably often.

I'd start with Chacon getting schooled by Olivares, probably both of Rubens wins, followed by Chacon's win over Little Red.
That should be enough skill, see-saw action, blood&guts and pure ATG level skills to make anybody fall in love with these guys (and the game).
With that done, I'd inform my newly converted boxing enthusiast, with all the nonchalant, trivial air of Columbo snaring his prey:
'just one more thing, Olivares, who handed Chacon his ass twice, also had a scrap with Little Red, who got his ass handed to him by Chacon, you might want to see that, although I'm sure you can figure out who won based on their respective fights with Chacon'.
I think I'd have me a lifelong companion to watch my favourite fighters with.
I'd probably, at some point, make this poor guy sit through both Indio movies, but I'm not sure yet wether they would make a good appetizer for watching Marvelous Marvin's ring career, or vice-versa. Cracking movies, though, both.

Not a big fight by any stretch, but one of the best fights I've ever seen:-
Matty Clarkson -v- Travis Dickinson.

Matty Clarkson -v- Travis Dickinson.

benn v mclellan and chavez v taylor, under no circumstances show nelson v de leon

Thankfully, common sense prevailed and we were all saved the abject misery of a rematch.

Barrerra vs Morales I. Gatti vs Ward was obviously great for action, but wasn't on the same level skills-wise as Barrerra vs Morales.

On the subject of Nelson his "fight" with James Warring was nearly as bad!
Best fight to show for me is Leonard v Hearns 1 for combined skill level together with a great fight.
Corrales v Castillo 1 would be another.

Benn vs Mclellan would put a lot of non boxing fans off boxing. It's a fight I've never seen twice. Horrible fight.

I've watched the first rounds a few times just because I believe Benn should have been stopped and a tragedy perhaps averted. Horrible fight. Makes me a little sick when you realise all the pawing at his eye was Gerald's brain bleeding. Terrible outcome. Probs put a lot off folk off boxing for good that fight.
Fights I've had people watch to get them exited are
Holyfield vs Bowe
Foreman vs Lyle
Rocky M vs Walcott
Joe Louis vs Schmelling 2
Chavez vs Taylor
Manny vs Morales 1&2
Floyd jnr vs Corrales
Castillo vs Corrales 1
Re: What fights would you show a non boxing fan to get them into boxing?
Moore Vs Durell to prove anything can happen.
Re: What fights would you show a non boxing fan to get them into boxing?
I was started off by watching an old cassette tape of Rocky Marciano vs Jersey Joe Walcott I and it sparked in me a great love for the sport.
So, I would probably start if off there. The footage may look a bit dated for todays youngsters but the fact that it was history in the making would more than make up for that fact.
