He will face Boxrec No.13 Jason Canoy who has never been stopped in a 6 rounder November 22nd. Thoughts?

Tough one for the 18 year old. Really tough one. Maruta is supposed to be something very special and apparently held his own with Felix Diaz and Shin Kubo but this really is a tough ask, especially considering what Canoy did last time out.

Fcking hell, another aggressively-matched Japanese wunderkind, brilliant.

Should read some of the news about him. To say there is expectation around the kid is an understatement. They dub him the "number 1 hope" and make it sound like he's going to make Inoue look average.
Hopefully he's as good as hyped, and if so...boy have we got a super talent on our hands.

Been following him since around the date of his "Pro Test" bout, incidentally the same date as Juiki Tatsuyoshi's, and everything about him seems to suggest that he's a very special talent. Him and his team have suggested that they've seen flaws in Canoy and have selected him, at leats in part, due to the size advantage Hinata has, lets hope for their sake they've not made a mistake.
The news from his team is that they won't try and break Tanaka's speed record, though they previously suggested they would. Their target seems to be a Japanese or Oriental title in 3 or 4 fights and a world title in 3 years. Given the talent at 118lbs that still looks incredibly ambitious.
Also to the opening poster, well done on mentioning this one. Too many fans have completely over-looked it which has been a massive shame. If Maruta was American or British fans would be foaming at the mouth at such an ambitious debut yet because he's a Japanese kid it seems that they are a little bit apprehensive about saying anything. In my eyes it's probably almost as tough a debut as Lomachenko's or Murata's, and both of those guys won Olympic gold medals.
Very ambitious and very exciting. Great time to follow Japanese boxing.

They don't miss about in Japan with their prospects. Wish some British fighters were matched harder earlier mainly those with a lot of amateur experience.

This, x10,000 (with a caveat, I
wish i'd seen a British prospect as good as Inoue was after 3 fvcking fights...)

Yep we wait far too long to get to world level, look at our best boxer now Brook is a prime example, if he had made the step up earlier then the Mayweather could have happened.
Will look forward to see Maruta's career progress.

This is the hardest debut I can remember from recent times.
I really fancy him to get beat here. Debuts can be tricky at the best of times even for great fighters.

If he defeats him though he will be right there with the top20 - top 15 Guys.. with 1 fight he wont even be a prospect anymore, haha kidding there.

It's a refreshing change.
Shows great faith by the management team.
