Diego De La Hoya vs Jesus Ruiz

Tonight on allegedly at 3am,ive seen De La Hoya a few times and he's always impressed,he has an aggresive exciting style,he has the style and surname to go places,i only seen Ruiz once that i can remember and that was when he was outclassed and stopped in 8 by Santa Cruz in a world title fight last year, apart from that his records pretty thin

De La Hoya has only had 11 fights and Ruiz has had nearly 50 so on paper its a decent step up for Diego at this stage seeing as Ruiz fought for a world title months ago,2 Mexicans which is always fun

Diego looks the goods, but, this is a huge step up. Great stuff to see. Not sure how Ruiz qualifies for a youth title fight though.

So De La Hoya wins a wide decision, like 2 of the judges i had it a shut out,it was a solid nights work for Diego he had to work well for the win,Ruiz never gave him a minute, offensively Ruiz never landed anything although he kept throwing the punches out there, defensively he made a good job of using his greater experience of not letting De La Hoya land much clean, but all in all Diego was the clear winner

TBH it wasnt a great fight, pretty much same in the 1st round to the last but all good shots landed by De La Hoya and he showed great maturity and composure to get an invalueable 10 rounds under the belt

Just watched the fight and agree with you Hands. I was impressed with DLH once he settled down. He looked particularly comfortable from round 8 onwards and was landing some impressive right uppercuts while on the move.

I did notice him lunging in though, similar to Mares last week, lunging in for the clinch leaving himself really wide open. Came through getting cut and the swollen eye quite well. Definitely one to keep an eye on in the SBW division and he's got the name that will open doors, just doesn't want to get rushed too fast, he's only 21.
