Agreed. Although I think he's been trying to break away from Team GB since his injury & loss in the WSB so wanted to turn pro for quite some time now

Loads of top level amateur experience, fought a fair bit in WSB and 27 in December.

Losing fighters over 4 rounds will be useless for Andrew Selby and he will go backwards.

He needs an 8 round debut against someone fairly decent and durable with a winning record. Saw him fight in WSB a couple of years ago thought he was class.

Personally think he should be looking at world titles in 2 years

yep the journeymen are very useful for most novice pros but someone with selbys experience should steer clear, suppose It depends on how brave his management are.

Anyone know who will promote him saw Sanigar (obviously) managing etc so he could start on their shows but would have thought him turning pro would be straight with a big promoter (likely Matchroom) and with more fanfare than just the couple of tweets yesterday. As mentioned above his a great talent and its BIG news him turning over imo

that is some pedigree and he'll get better - the UK amateur set up is really producing the goods.

Absolutely, I thought he should have turned pro earlier, he's so naturally talented I would be disappointed if he doesn't win a world title.

I guess if his brother has signed with Haymon, he will look to tread in his footsteps eventually.

Good luck to the lad, but there isn't much dough around at the very light weight divisions - I would have thought he wouldn't get the kind of money he is one now (tax free lottery money, free travel, accommodation, food, training etc - not to mention no manager, promoter or trainer to pay).

There are few good lads around his weight domestically - Satchel, Yafai and Butler - but I agree that at his age and experience it would be good if he was fast tracked to that level and beyond rather than pissing about knocking over much lower level opposition.

Wasn't this the fella at the opening ceremony at London 2012 wearing his sunglasses in the dark and sporting a rather dodgy 'tache ?

Timing is certainly weird unless he thought he was going stale and less chance of getting anything at rio.

Fantastic talent, should go far - but I do wonder about his mentality sometimes when he is heavily favoured (e.g. commonwealth games).

This is the reason behind him turning pro. He'll be moved quickly too.

I'm sure he lives in the gym and trains all the time. Surely a debut on Lees defence on October 18th is realistic ? Must be some half decent Mexicans around that weight.

He did tweet that his debut is in October so I'm assuming it's on the same night as Lee's first defence

Hopefully he'll be moved quickly and he was a brilliant amateur. Need to be careful though as 112/115 are tough divisions right now with the likes of Gonzalez, Estrada, Ioka, Ruenroeng, N. Inoue and Cuadras, the Arroyo twins, Tete, Mthalane, Srisaket, Ishida, Ancajas, Saludar, T.Inoue and Casimero all there or there abouts.

There's moving him quickly, but he also needs to be moved intelligently.

Welsh boxing is buzzing again at the moment.
Locketts got a few good young ones aswell.

Lockett is a class act and I'm sure he'll so really well, he's a thinker.

I think/reckon his debut will be in Newport end of October. Sanigar is promoting shows on consecutive nights. I think Newport is the Friday and Merthyr on the Saturday (last week of October).
I don't think he'll be fast tracked.

Aslo features Craig Kennedy, Jamie Arthur and a Welsh title fight Barrie Jones v James Lilley.

I think they've said the Newport show will be his 2nd fight. Looks likely to make his debut on a PBC show on October 10th

Said in an interview with IFLTV he may be fighting in America October 10th the one show I can see is a lou di bella show
