Tyson Fury: Lennox Lewis is an envious has-been

http://www.boxingnewsonline.net/tyson-f ... -has-been/
JOHN FURY is praising Lennox Lewis, stating that a young version of the former undisputed world heavyweight champion would have beaten today’s Wladimir Klitschko, who his son Tyson meets on October 24 in Germany.

“A 27-year-old Lewis would have been very hard to beat,” states Fury, “Even though he hates us; I don’t know why he hates us.”

Lennox Lewis has never stated he has any grievance or antipathy towards the Fury family, so the contention appears without foundation, but Tyson certainly believes it.

“Tell you why he hates us?” Tyson asks rhetorically. “Because he’s a has-been, he’s old and he envies other fighters who are active. Has been a fighter, has been a champion, has been in the public eye, has been successful.”

Lewis has made some rather spiteful remarks about Fury and other British heavyweights in recent years... He reminds me somewhat of a jealous and envious Jack Johnson, when Joe Louis began his climb up the ladder... Johnson wanted to be the only black heavyweight champion, so he was leary of Louis's success... and I think with Lewis, he wants to be in the limelight (still) though he hasn't fought in over a decade and wants to be remembered as the greatest British heavyweight of all time (though for my money thats Bob Fitzsimmons, not Lewis).

I'm not sure whether Lewis or Fitzsimmons was the greater British heavyweight, I have a lot of respect for both.

But time will show that foul-mouthed Fury isn't nearly as good as Lennox.

The Furys are a notorious dysfunctional family.
The father, John Fury, has served 5 years for intentionally gouging a man's eye out in a fight, when he was around 45.

I don't take anything Tyson Fury says seriously at all. He is a student of the Gorgeous George, Muhammad Ali, and Donald Trump School of Media.

1) All publicity is good publicity.

2) Be Outrageous!

3) Sell tickets and interest.

4) It doesn't matter if they love you or hate you as long as they tune in.

Another blowhard Brit doing more yapping than fighting. Does a day go by without some kind of dumb comment from a British Boxer? Khan went on a 2 month binge of dumb daily quotes. Brook's reported that he's fighting 8 different people in the last 3 months and still doesn't have a fight signed. Froch curiously calls out GGG and then retires? What? Why? Now this dink Fury, a guy that talked his way into a title fight with Wlad, has time to have his family call out one of the greatest Heavyweight boxers in the sports history. Fury is just a white David Haye and doesn't have the skill or the power to compete with an old Wlad, nevermind Lennox Lewis.

Just a bunch of clowns over there.

Lennox Lewis would smash Tyson Fury even now, let alone prime for prime.

Bet he can still punch though. It's not quite as ridiculous as it sounds, though yes, it is still a bit far fetched.

Eh? It's a no-contest, Lewis is easily and by far the greatest English Heavyweight - Fitzsimmons was someone who made a brief foray at heavyweight, but really was a MW/LHW.

Could you explain why you rate Fitzsimmons over Lewis, given that his only really significant win at heavyweight was one against Corbett. How you rate that above the entirety of Lewis' career at heavyweight is rather puzzling to me.

I rate Fitzsimmons over Lewis P4P, but at HW it's clearly Lennox IMO

Sorry it is ridiculous. Lennox is 50 years old and has been retires for 12 years.

I guess I'd give you that one. He was a bit of a phenomenon Fitzsimmons. Definitely a very highly skilled operator.

Really unimpressed with the spiteful comments the Fury clan have put out about Lennox Lewis.

He is in my opinion the greatest post war fighter this country has produced and he's got to get abuse off a fighter and trainer who's highlight is achieving a British title.

I will never want a British fighter to lose in a world title fight but if Karma can find it's way into a sneaky Wlad right hand then I won't complain.

Fury is so poor, I really do believe Lewis would chin him easily if they fought now. As will Wlad.

This.

Fitzsimmons is one of the greatest in history. A top ten p4p to me. Lewis was a better heavy though for total body of work.

Possibly the hardest P4P puncher ever.

Definitely one of the most accurate.

Very strangely built man, huge arms and hulking upper body and then a spindly set of leg. He was a former blacksmith which he always attributed his physical prowess to.

I used to have an old Victorian book by him, which I am gutted I didn't look after as it got mouldy and had to be thrown out - I'll never find another copy for sure, - it had details of his training regimen, which was very interesting, he was an early proponent of interval training, he used to go for long walks, interspersed with sprints and hill runs to build up his stamina, and did a lot of calisthenics and resistance training. A man very much ahead of his time.
