Channel five last night showed (whole aswell) two old world title fights that contained some classic action. Being Welsh, I had particularly fond memories of Steve Robinson's 1st title defence against Sean Murphy and I remembered the fight vividly. However, the other fight they showed I couldn't recall. That one was Nigel Benn vs Lou Gent in 1993.

What an exceptional fight that was, the 3rd round especially was up there with anything Foreman and Lyle could muster. Gent down, arms spread, 3 times - Benn hurt at least 3 times. What a war it was, even though I knew the outcome it was still exciting watching it today.

I really cannot recall around as good as the 3rd in a British ring in my life. What is everyones favourite round in a British ring.

The penultimate round of Eubank-Watson II is one of the most electrifying rounds I've ever seen. Eubank going down under a relentless Watson attack then rising and delivering a devastating (literally, sadly) uppercut to floor Watson.

As Reg Gutteridge said during the break, the atmosphere was "absolutely electric".

Kaylor v Gumbs Round 4 - Kaylor floored, gets up and almost knocks out Gumbs with his next punch.

Sibson v Minter Round 3

Jim Watt v Charlie Nash Round 1

Final round of the first Michael Ayres V Wayne Rigby war. Despite Michael glancing at the referee a couple of times to allow him to stop the pummeling Rigby was receiving , the two boxers instead touched gloves and ended the bout themselves. Both guys knew the fight was over and it was a fitting conclusion to a magnificant sporting contest.

Sibson - Lucas, final round.

Bugner/Dunn - 1

not just the round, but because of all the build up and hate between the two fighters after Dunn was beaten by Ali ( Dunn/Ali - hard to believe now )

Really nasty stuff from the two of them. Bugner ended it in Round 1.

Dunn ended up on the rigs and broke both legs in an accident. Got £300,000 compo which was more than he ever earned in the ring

Calzaghe floored for the first time in his career, gets up and ends up decking Mitchell, ref stops fight. Crowd going absolutely insane...

It was memorable in my opinion. Not the "greatest round ever" no, but a goodie.

I watched Calzaghe vs Mitchell again the other day - good round. However, watching it again it seemed Calzaghe was more lucky than I first thought. Mitchell definately hurt him when he was down (no flash knockdown). Mitchell also hurt him immediately after the Knockdown (Joe's knees buckle). Then, when been pushed to the ropes, Calzaghe wails way wide punches out of desperation more than anything else. One of the lands which changes the course of the fight.

However, I don't think Joe saw the gap, Joe seems to be focusing on throwing as many punches as possible - as opposed to taking aim and firing. I'm not saying it was a lucky punch, but Joe didn't know alot about it. If Mitchell would have gone for the kill with a high guard, he may have won.

What he did after that was brilliant, although Mitchell was still doing what Calzaghe was doing when hurt (i.e. wailing away). It was stopped premature.

This is my favourite moment ever in boxing, I've never seen anything quite as moving as the respect the two fighters had for one another that night.

It was a see-saw battle throughout, with Ayers in the ascendancy early, then hurt by a rallying Rigby, both men were down as I recall, and at the end, like you say, the two men basically took the fight out of the referee's hands becuase Ayers didn't want to give Rigby any more punishment. A magic moment in the history of the sport.
