With Floyd Mayweather announcing his retirement last night, it really feels like the end of an era. Floyd has etched his name into the annals of boxing history, and did so in such an impressive manner I think it's fitting that he won his last bout by shut out regardless of the level of opponent.

Of course there is a very real chance he will make a comeback in the future, but as for now Floyd seemed serious last night when he announced his retirement. As much as his out of the ring attitude and actions may have tarnished what you thought of the person, there is no denying he was a great fighter.

It's time for boxing fans to move on, and enter a new era in boxing. I feel really privileged as a boxing fan to have lived during and witnessed such a great fighters career. And I now look forward to post-Mayweather boxing, and to see who becomes the new p4p #1 and how the landscape changes.

I thought this was going to be a thread about the title reign of Cornelius Bundrage coming to an end.

If he knows his drugsusing isn't untraceble any more he quits, it's simple as that.
It's not surprising he was looking for an opponend that used drugs as well and is now loads weaker as he was when he still used drugs.

Secondly, boxing always finds new superstars. The sport is not going into a fatal decline. Mayweather has inspired a whole new generation of youngsters who will be turning to boxing as a way out. Maweathers presence in boxing will not go just because he retired. If anything, it may grow.

Yea nice thread and all, but why hasnt Mayweather Vacated all his belts? Is he still gonna keep them while being retired ?

Mayweather is much more than a superstar. He's a once in a lifetime great fighter. By the end his style got pretty ridiculous and boring, but he always did what he had to do to get the win. I think even more impressive than his 49-0 record is the fact that he always kept himself in shape and worked hard in the gym. So many guys lose that as they get to be more successful and see the money rolling in. But not Floyd.

The Good Senor doesn't respond to facts very well

One thing which will hopefully become less outrageous with Mayweather (and hopefully Cotto soon) gone, is cherry picking of opponents, ignoring mandatories, catch weights, pocket refs and judges, biased athletic commissions and other things which made it hard to call professional boxing a sport.

@ boxing dying because Mayweather is retiring. Someone always steps up into the spot light. Crawford, Spence, or maybe even Thurman will take over the mantle very soon.

The divisions around Welter-middle will get more interesting once he finally goes.

Good Riddance to the PED using wife beater with feather hands. Now maybe Moretti and Bayless can retire and enjoy all that money they took on the cuff to "keep it fair".

The cool thing about boxing is that fans can be fans of whomever they choose. I'm not even a Mayweather fan, but I'll be sad to see him retire from a historical perspective. He was a great one in the ring where it mattered most; winning. His style was horrible for the last years of his career, and he as a person seems to be a real chode, but it doesn't change the fact that he was a great boxer.

The idiots that feel that Boxing will no longer exist because Floyd is gone, slick. Non fans have been saying that Boxing is dying for years when in fact the sport hasn't been this strong in many years. There's talent up and down the scale right now like never before and anyone that thinks that the sport is dead should just find another sport because i'm sick of hearing it. The sport doesn't need those people and neither does this site.
