Anyone have any ideas? He says it's early November over the pound against a ex long term title holder. I can only think of Felix Sturm, Robert Stieglitz or Lucian Bute. Bute fighting at light heavy altho is no.11 in ibf rankings at super middle and Sturm trying for Abraham fight isn't he?

I was hoping it was going to be Ramirez but he doesn't fit that description so as you say, the only one I can think of is Bute. He's been mentioned a few times so that's who my money's on.

Maybe I'm just undermining his confidence and self belief.

Groves and Degale will fight at some stage of there career probably in the next 18 months.

I would think the next fight for James may not set the pulses racing I would not be surprised to see Patrick Nielsen or if its in the states again perhaps Rogelio Medina as a chief support to a big bill somewhere. Neither would be a real challenge but both are in the top 15 rankings and whilst they try and line up something big for James, perhaps a mark time defence will fit the bill.

From what I've seen of degale recently ward is the only fighter who could handle him at the moment. He would have out boxed Jack and I think he would box rings around AA.

If Groves doesn't win a significant fight, they may never fight. Their trajectories are currently heading in separate directions.

In some ways the rematch for Groves was a bad call, I'm not sure his confidence is ever going to be what it was. He was able to convince himself he was cheated in the first fight, when In fact he was heading for a stoppage - but the second fight he was poleaxed, and no amount of self delusion can convince yourself you weren't KTFO.

We shall see, but I don't think Groves is ever going to hit the heights some marked him out for.

Lets not forget that Groves shares a promoter with Arthur Abraham. I'll take a guess he will have a comeback fight by the end of the year, then a routine WBO Intercontinental title win and then a fight vs Abraham.

That's not a given.

Why would they give Abraham to Groves necessarily? They would have wanted him to win a belt by a different route, not take a belt from an existing champion.

It's not in a promoters interests to do so, considering that Abraham is a far bigger draw than Groves. Without a belt and/or following, Groves isn't really in a strong position.

He needs to get back into contention, I very much doubt he will get a crack at Abraham, who is very popular in Germany, and a cash cow.

He might have just been taking it round his friend's house Hope he wasn't looking to flog it. You'd think his dough wouldn't have run out that quickly.
My opinion is that these things are written into the hard-wiring at a very early stage. After that, it's very unlikely that they won't surface at some point. Or, I believe certain drugs can knock you 'off course' - although I don't know that, nor am I making any link between that and JT's problems.
You'd actually think that with all that exercising and having a few pounds to pay the bills and buy the food with, that you'd be on a pretty even keel.

Degale will get a gimme for his next fight - fair enough given that he won the title away from home (this will also guage how popular he is able to sell a show on his own).

The obvious fight money wise is Degale / Groves and hopefully they are both not so stupid to realise this.

If Groves fights Buglioni then this would be marketed as a big domestic fight - a fight of Groves / Degale would then be marketed as a big domestic fight which could earn both boxers good money.

Ike Ibeabuchi apparently underwent a pretty dramatic personality shift after the hellacious fight with David Tua. Henry VIII also sustained a brain injury which left him unconscious for 2 days, and became an entirely different person after that event. (weird example I know.)

I think it's quite plausible that a lot of former professionals are suffering personality disorders caused by brain trauma. There was no signs I remember of Taylor exhibiting such behaviour before.

Conjecture of course, but does make you wonder.

I'm not sure it's such a big sell now. Not is there much in it for DeGale, who possibly has bigger fish to fry.

I think he will be reluctant to pay Groves much.

so it sounds less like something in his character and more a case that he's very punchy. That's a shame. Did he take a lot of punishment?....actually, scrap that question. I knew about Froch and Pavlik, I'd forgotten about the fight with Abraham. That's plenty. What were his fights with Hopkins like? Did Hopkins manage to put much on him? Very slick operator was Taylor once of a time. When he fought that Australian a few months back he must have been going on auto-pilot....he should have been nowhere near a ring. Hopefully the justice system takes all of this into account.

Yes, you did slightly throw me with the Henry VIII reference! Funny, I've watched the first three series of The Tudors as well!

This is why - whether you believe him or whether you don't - when Floyd says "you want to be able to walk and talk, I've made my money/ name, I'm getting out now..." You think, maybe not a bad idea Floyd. He's looking after himself (and his family). Brain injuries don't seem to discriminate whether you pick them up over 12 years or 12 minutes. We luxuriate on here and rib and say things like "...Mayweather on points, easy..", but he's the one in the actual firing line.


It would be interesting to conduct some kind of research into the factors that make it far easier for some boxers to walk away, and far harder - impossible even, for some others. Don't tell me it's all financial.
