He wouldn't get that for fighting Cotto, he might for a PAC rematch though and I don't see why he'd turn it down, more easy money for him.

No he won't turn it down.

I think he will get the same fighting either Cotto or Pacman.

The fight will be sold on him breaking Marciano's record - not the opponent, so long as the opponent is world class or thereabouts, I have no doubt this will be the biggest grossing fight in history, especially with a middleweight title on the line, albeit one which is in no way makes Mayweather the real MW champ of the world.

Surely he only gets that if Cotto beats Canelo?

I'd love a Canelo rematch at the Light Middle limit this time.

Yes of course.

A canelo fight would probably be just as huge. A fight at 154 could be easily sold - would Floyd want to campaign at that weight however, where Canelo is going to be more of a threat, I'm not sure. I'd definitely say it's possible however.

I really hope he stays retired. Its not like Cotto, Canelo, or Pac was anywhere near close enough to warrant a rematch. He has more money than anyone in the history of the sport now and is set. It would be foolish and greedy if he did.

Why not instead have Pac fight the winner at 154? I think it would sell just as big....maybe even bigger.

Floyd's done. Can people move on now? There's no way he takes a fight with Cotto no matter what kind of money is thrown about. The only way he'd come back is for another fight with Manny but I highly doubt that happens. Let's just move on already. Floyd's done and there's a bunch of other fighters to be excited about.

Well he's been really troubling at 147 with the rehydration lol.
I think Canelo would fair much better in a re-match.
There's no way floyd stays retired though. His ego won't let him stay out of the limelight for long

So you really think he won't fight Cotto - WHO HE HAS ALREADY BEATEN -or Manny WHO HE HAS ALREADY BEATEN. I'd say Canelo is less likely only because he's a bigger man that the other two.

You might wish to think he's done, but I'm afraid you are in for a major disappointment.

If you honestly think he's got any intention of retiring on 49-0, then you really live in cloud cuckoo land. He will come back for another huge fight, almost certainly against someone he's already beaten.

Explain to me by what rationale you believe a fighter who choose to retire undefeated at 49-0, whilst still the #1 fighter in the world, still in good shape, and still not coming close to getting beaten, when they can choose their opponent for a career defining and record breaking 50-0 record.

I'd like you to just explain your reasoning, other than utter wishful thinking.

You may be the only person in that universe, including floyd who believes this.

I would actually like to answer this.
I honestly believe Floyd just does not enjoy it anymore like he has stated.
Nothing wrong with 49-0. One more fight is not going to change his legacy one way or the other.

And I just don't want to see him fight anymore. So yes it is wishful thinking

Well, we shall find out in the next 6-12 months I should imagine.

I'd imagine the gears will start turning some time shortly after the Cotto v Alvarez match.

Floyd hasn't flip flopped in his responses to fighting again. The guy is 38 years old and how long do you think he can keep doing this and getting up for it? The guy has more money than he can spend as it is so what's the need to risk another fight? To get more money that he'll never spend? I'll argue that he actually retired after the Manny bout because that mess on Saturday night was nothing more than a clumsy exhibition. Neither guy landed a punch worth a darn and to be completely honest with you, if felt like i was watching a guy that fought his last fight with the way he reacted the last two rounds and that display in the middle of the ring. It's over. If he comes back, it will be Floyd's only bad decision he's made in boxing.

He been outspoken about how hard Cotto hits and his talent. Most would argue that Cotto is better than ever so i really do doubt that he's on Floyd's list with a win over Canelo. If he does decide to get #50, it will be against another Berto type character. But i really do feel he's done. What's there left to prove? He won already.

Floyd strikes me as the kind of person who could easily blow $300m or whatever fortune he has amassed. An extra $100m before he hangs them up for good might come in handy!

They kind of already ruined that...in every commercial I saw for Floyd/Berto they said "Can Floyd Mayweather make history" or "Watch Mayweather make history and go 49-0". Poor marketing, IMO.

This seems very true and highly likely to me.

the only way it could come close to pac I is
if the opponent is 3G and gennady wins his
next two bouts by KO. the public buying PPV
doesn't even know and for sure not care about
some record by someone fifty years ago. and
which title it is has no relevance either.

They will do once it's been rammed down their throat for 3 months in the pre-fight publicity - the public can be manipulated.

Marciano's record can only be truly beaten by a heavyweight. The handicapped divisions are irrelevant.

no way. you will never reach the numbers they
achieved in the first by a marketing campaign.
it was way more than that in their first fight. it
was true, not manipulated, publican interest.

you can manipulate the public but not to this
degree.
