The case of Gary Cornish is an interesting one. A name that to me went completely under the radar until he was named as AJ's opponent. How can a British 6'7 heavyweight prospect these days get to 21-0 without a substantial amount of hype?

Was he a ticket seller and if so, were his opponents cherry picked blow overs? The only time I've seen him was his 90 seconds or so with AJ. I can see a lot of leisure center venues on his record, had he even fought on TV before?

Does he stand any chance of competing in the British scene as AJ and Whyte progress beyond it or is he nothing more than a padded record of little substance, a Tom Dallas Mark II if you like?

Hes Scottish and a heavyweight so there was some hype about him up here (from Gilmour) but ultimately everyone knew he was very limited , not enough competition on his short career as amateur and pro.

I seem to recall he was on one Tv show possibly Nuts Tv when it I was on one night ,

I think pretty much everyone knew he was going get blasted out in 1 round on Saturday night but then maybe we cant judge him on that since AJ has been doing that to most.

Whyte said Cornish wasn't a top 200 heavyweight, he was exposed on Saturday by a very powerful and fast starting ex Olympic Gold winner. Decent boxers get caught early in bouts and it doesn't mean they are no good. Cornish could box Joshua 10 times and be done the same every time but Joshua is on the up and up and Cornish can rebuild and win some good fights, wins some belts and earn some money. It looks like Joshua will beat some of the top men, he gets his weight into every shot, even when he's against the ropes. The Whyte bout may end as early.

First time I have seen cornish and to be fair he had a go, so respect for that.

He could have fiddled around for 2 or 3 rounds and then concede , but he went on the attack.

I agree, there's no shame in getting stopped early by AJ given everybody else he's been in with have suffered the same fate. Hopefully he will continue to fight (Hughie Fury maybe?) and show us what he's got. Somebody here mentioned it's not even his day job and he had to get time off to train for this fight so in that respect I wouldn't be too surprised if we hear nothing more, but I hope I'm wrong.

and basically with just Paul butlin on his record it was very clear that he was being steered to one big payday and would be destroyed by the first quality opp.

That may well be that, he's got a trade and comes over as a decent, humble guy. No shame in finding your level and walking away.

I see no reason why Cornish can't go back to the fights he was having before. Build the record some more and perhaps look at another title shot once the bigger names have moved on to other things

Gary was no where near ready for that step up. He was moving in the right direction baby steps for someone with next to no amateur experience. There was no harm in him having another 10-15 step up each time fights. I think 4 or 5 fights at British Level and he may be ready to fight Sexton/lewison or McDermott. Got to remember Gary is a part time boxer its basically a hobby. He should go full time 2 year push see where he is. Good luck to him

Hopefully a fight back at the level he was fighting at, then start looking at the fights he should have been taking at this stage rather than fighting Joshua. Sexton, McDermott, Lewison, Towers or similar level opponents from abroad that will give him a test, no point stepping back down to where he was for longer than a fight, he'd got to the point where he was stopping the Eastern Europeans they were bringing in early. He's still part time but if he gets the chance it wouldn't be a bad idea for him to go and spend some time with the Fury's, he'd get good sparring with them and the sparring partners they bring in.

What level is he? If he carries on he will just be another domestic heavy who will have more losses on his record than wins. Saturday night showed that he has nothing to offer in a step up in class. Jack it in is my opinion he has a decent job and his facalties.

I'd imagine a couple gimmes back home then on the hunt for titles again.
Joshua is a bit of a beast so can't hold Saturday against him too much.
I wouldn't mind seeing him in with Sexton or Lewison or McDermott, eventually.

John Wesley Nofire, Herve Hubeaux, Andriy Rudenko, Oscar Riva, John Wesley Nofire, Otto Wallin that way.

I thought he would be a rabbit in the headlights against AJ, but to be fair he looked up for it. Even started well, getting behind the jab and trying to move in. But then he got hit. And that was pretty much it.

He should give it another go. Like DavidDee said, get his confidence back with and then try fighting the likes of McDermott or Sexton. Dorian Darch could be a good opponent as well.

Pretty harsh. AJ MIGHT just be the best HW in the world at the moment, especially if you take Wlad out of it. He certainly looks like the most dangerous offensively. No point in a novice like Cornish jacking it in because he's been beaten by somebody like AJ.
