How is Gavin Rees aloud to fight on Saturday at Lightweight, I realise his WBO fight was supposedly at Superfeather - but surely it more dangerous him fighting at Lightweight on Saturday than at Superfeather in a couple of weeks down the line?

The fighter gets weight checked a few weeks before a fight to (i am presuming) see how close they are to there fighting weight, if your to far out as rees must have been the vito the match, Rees must have been alot over, it vill be interseting to see what he weighs at the weigh in, The board generally (im told do spot weight checks).

Well its supposed to be a lightweight contest - but as no title is on the line, it may be catchweight or Muya may allow Rees to come in heavy. However, if he comes in a 9st 9lb for Saturday then I fear for his health, cause surely he must be a quite a few pounds over that when he was spot checked.

The BBB OF C and certain sanctioing bodies have a rule that at x amount of weeks before a fight the fighters must be within a certain % of their fighting weight. As soon as a title fight is announced the boxer is required to check weigh, obviously if a fight is announced that is 8 weeks away theoretically the fighter is allowed to be heavier than if the fight was 4 weeks away.I think the board will allow a weght loss of 2-3 lbs per week. The week before a fight the fighters have to be within 3% of his contest weight. So for a fighter at 140lbs this would be around 4lbs and a fighter at 200lbs 6lbs.The fighter is then check weighed again 2 days before the official weigh in and must be within 2-3 lbs of contest weight. The board realising that fighters can lose between 2-4 lbs of fluid from going to bed at night and waking up in the morning.

So for all u big drinkers out there try it, weigh yourself after a heavy drinking session before you go bed then again in the morning after you have had a piss! You may be suprised
