Just out of interest whats the criteria (I'd imagine under 25 maybe?) and when does it run from i.e is it of 2015 so far or from Sep-Sep?

My personal choice would have been Sam Eggington but Mitchell's had a good year too.

There was a very good interview with Smith a few weeks ago, Boxing News I think. He's not had an easy time of it, I hope he does well.

Smiths had a good year but i agree with you jon sam or josh for me.

I think Mitchell is well deserving of the award.

I'd pick Eggington.

He's had a great year. The Gavin fight looks a real corker.

It does, I think Gavin will get worn down and stopped late.

i think he deserves the award but that piece was a bit strange...it was all about how important his dad was, how the father thing was such a huge part of his life and success and yet he doesnt even live with his own kids....

FairPlay to Mitchell his a very good boxer, but shouldn't it go on what the boxer has won in the last year aswell who the boxer has fought surely on merit then it has to be josh Warrington or Sam egginton

See Mitchell and Ward been having it off on twitter tonight. Thats a fight i'd like to see being made.

Would have gone for Jack Catterall personally, but I've no issues with Smith winning it, been impressed with him recently and he would probably have been my second choice behind Catterall.

Catterall is a good call, his last fight was sloppy but that was more because of the opponent spoiling, also the Stalker win was brutal it was like a man chucking a boy around. Still only 22 so I cant see how he wont win it in the future.

Smith is an okay choice, I loved his combo knockout 2 fights ago and the body shot in his last fight shows he has good punch variety.

Blackwell

Don't think he had much choice regarding his daughter's living arrangements once the relationship with the mother broke down. He still sees her as much as possible. I'm biased (as I wrote the piece) but I cannot see how the pivotal influence of Mitchell's father is negated or mitigated in any way by his not living with his own daughter.

if the aim was to show how positive his dad's influence was - and to make such a huge deal of the influence of family - then by comparison he doesn't measure up well as a father because has almost been out of his kids life right from the start. what story will his kids tell?

personally, i couldnt give a fk, but it just seemed a bit of a weird way to go at it....as a boxer, he's top drawer and also has a bit of that elusive property - star power. tempted to go to the show in harrow but if not will defintely be watching on TV. he looks like he could go long way. maybe that's why he is getting the plaudits. i can understand why some people would pick warrington but my feeling is he has found his level and will get done over by the elite...you dont get that feeling with some of the other up and comers, like michell smith.

I still don't see why he suffers in comparison when his mother abandoned him and he has been prevented by circumstance from having custody of his daughter. It's oranges and apples for me, but we can agree he is a top prospect :)

Mitchell smith would stop Martin j ward, I think Mitchell is a strange character and I think he has that Carl froch mentality as to referring to himself in 3rd person and blowing smoke up his own behind, but that said he's a very good boxer who can punch, I think at feather he can be very good, st super feather he would have success but would struggle against someone who can take a shot on the later rounds the size difference could tell

I'm shocked that Blackwell would have been eligible - he seems to have been around for such a long time. Eggington for me, but Smith looks a very decent prospect also.

Blackwell isn't eligible, neither was Josh Warrington, 1991 and later was the age cut off, both were born late in 1990.

I still think Ward getting the draw against Maxi first time round was a shocking decision. Maxi should of got the nod their.

Hopefully the board start making some fights for British titles involving these fighters now.

the board have made numerous eliminators and a final eliminator. ward boxed an eliminator troy james boxed 2 then was put in a final eliminator. troy james is now mandatory for liam walsh. smith dropped his English title wen townend was his mandatory for English. so the board have been making decisions at super feather

Can only be Sam Eggington for me been in fights where odds where fairly close and done the business. I just love the guys attitude unlike Mitchell Smith he doesn't bad mouth people to get attention he keeps quiet and gets on with it. He has also come up the very hard way too going in prizefighter as a kid pretty much.
