I really loved the idea of the Super Middleweight Super Six, but it was massively cheapened by the fact that almost everyone pulled out of it and needed to be replaced. With a pool of Welterweights not fighting each other, it would be great to have a Super Six in this division........as long as they all stuck with it, which could be unlikely.

Anyway, who would be your six in it? Mine would be:

Khan
Thurman
Porter
Brook
Bradley
Garcia

Americans and Brits only, but I think it would make for a great series.

Looking at your line up, I think that if you do indeed want it to be a USA/Brit thing, it makes logical sense to name 3 of each.
In accordance with that, BoxRec would tell you that the six are:

USA....................................UK
1 Keith Thurman....................1 Kell Brook
2 Shawn Porter......................2 Amir Khan
3 Tim Bradley........................3 Frankie Gavin

I would add Spence and Ali to those 6 with quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final. Of course, each fighting each would be more accurate and interesting, but then people would start pulling out. With just 3 fights, there is a good chance that winners will not pull out.

Swap Matthysse for Ali as i'm sure he said he was moving up after the Postol fight.

I effing hated the Super Six. So, Spence would have to weight a couple years to fight then?

down the line i see brook and thurman beating everybody. thurman is way to strong and would knock them out and brook is way to technicle and athleticly gifted. these 2 are the best.
if they both meet each other, it would be close, cause thurman can always make a win with a big bang, but i see brook moving a lot, being technicle and winning by UD. to me aside from pacquiaol, kell is the #1 welter in the world.

It was only a mentioned that I selected only Brits and Americans. For his safety, I would keep Gavin out of this. He will most likely lose to Sam Eggington next anyway.

We will be lucky to see 2 of those six fight each other by 2017. The first fight that I would like to see is Thurman/Khan. For some reason, I think that fight would be fantastic.

Al Haymon has the stable to pull off a tourney like this at different weights.

This means that Bradley and other non-Haymon fighters wouldn't be able to take part.

As usual politics would stop this fight from happening.

I would tend to agree with Frankie would massively struggle in this company but his position warrants him consideration for a place. Though, if we're to be honest, the guy should definitely be fighting at a lower weight, he's far too sleight to be a fully-fledged Welterweight in my opinion.

I would also add that Porter would struggle in this company as well. Actually, I think that I would prefer to see Pacquaio in there ahead of him.

I too, used to blame "boxing politics" for a lot of the top guys not fighting each other. But over the past five or so years I have revised that theory, and I now think that it's all to do with money - and keeping the gravy train rolling for good fighters. They can fight solid contenders and make heavy paydays without actually meeting their toughest competition. And it's definitely more than a bit of a shame.

We can agree on this subject

A prime example was Leo Santa Cruz getting close to a million to fight tomato cans.
Bradley got close to 2 million for the Chaves fight.
If you can get good money to fight lower level opposition it can stop the bigger fights happening

Frankie will be in a life or death battle with young Sam Eggington next time out. If the US fans haven't seen Eggington box, try to find some footage - you'll enjoy his style, commitment and energy.

the super 6 would work better if it was super 8 and you had to win to stay involved

Post Floyd it's actually a good time for this to happen. All of these guys would benefit from the competition and exposure.

I think rather than a 6 it should be done as an 8 man knockout tournament.

the undercards can be filled out with losing participants of each round to determine a true divisional ranking. Whoever wins this is likely to be PPV worthy and would hopefully have a really good solid fan base. I can't see it ever coming to fruition, and its a shame that the likelihood of guys from top rank/haymon/hearn all meeting is close to nil but the division would recieve a huge boost.

Agreed, post Floyd boxing will be looking for a new number one face for the sport. Certainly, at the very least a vacuum will be left in the Welterweight waiting for a fighter to man up and step on to the pedestal. Unfortunately, I honestly don't see Thurman, Khan or Brook having the courage to face each other and prove themselves as the best by beating the best.

I think that another tournament will only work with a division that suffers from lack of attention like the Super Middleweight Division did at the time of the Super Six. The Welterweights have been carrying the sport so there's no need or way for this to happen. I think that the Cruiserweight Division would be perfect for this. Those guys would fight for peanuts and it would be great if they could build an Andre Ward-like star out of the top Cruiserweights.

Can't help notice that arguably the best welterweight remaining post-Floyd, Manny Pacquiao, has been left out of everyone's super 6 (even super 8 )

Now I accept Manny is on the slide and was comfortably beaten by Floyd

But we're talking about a guy who has taken on all comers for the last 12 years and would most likely be happy to face any or all of these names, yet he doesn't get into it, while Ali and Spence are more than welcome.

He'd thrash some of the names mentioned so far and be a very very stern test for the best that you've all picked.

I agree its maybe a bit criminal to leave him out, but my reasoning is that this is to create a new star. It's time to move on from the pac and Floyd era. Plus you put Pac on there and this is PPV style shit right there.
