There saying 20million will watch this fight in India.

Surely that's a hype number. Can't see that many tuning in for a 4 rounder.

I think he will maybe box at commonwealth level, not good enough at world stage for the pros.
Fowler boxed his head off last year.

I'm more interested in that guy from Pakistan who debuted last week, Muhammad Waseem, seems like he could be a very interesting guy to keep an eye on

India's population is nearly one and a half billion and they see some sport as a religion. Take cricket for an example. 20 million sounds a lot. But who knows?

Vijender Singh looks to live up to the hype

Lots of surprises, some scepticism and a few brickbats followed his decision to quit amateur boxing and star Indian pugilist Vijender Singh will look to live up to the unprecedented hype when he makes his eagerly-awaited professional debut against Britain’s Sonny Whiting here on Saturday.

The 29-year-old, who scripted history as an amateur by becoming India’s first Olympic and World Championships medallist, is all set to begin a new chapter in his illustrious boxing career.

In his debut middleweight pro bout, the strapping six-footer faces a cocky opponent in Whiting, who has promised to put him “through hell”. The 26-year-old from Rochester is three bouts old on the circuit and has a 2-1 win-loss record.

Despite the verbal provocations, Vijender has remained his usual composed self and has promised to answer every threat with his punches in the ring. “I am totally focused and waiting for the right moment to reply in the ring. I am not at all bothered by his comments. I will reply with my punches,” Vijender said on the eve of the bout.

Vijender, who signed up with Queensberry Promotions in July, is not the first Indian to enter the professional arena with the likes of Gurcharan Singh and Pradeep Sihag having been a regular on the circuit earlier. However, never before has an Indian boxer’s professional debut generated this kind of hype.

Really can't put a finger on why, but I have a strong feeling he'll flop as a pro - one of these guys who should have turned pro earlier. Hope he proves me wrong because India a big market potentially and he seems a decent guy.

20 million out of 1.25 billion doesn't seem to be "en-masse".
Less than 2% of the population.

Also, kinda sick of the whole counting potential fans shit.
I don't give a fornicate if the fighter will be popular.
Zou Shiming sucks. That's all I care about.
I'll give a fornicate about this guy if he can beat Jack as a pro.

I was very impressed. Be interesting to see how quick they move him.

After a couple more fights I reckon they will give him Markham. Be a good yardstick to see how good he is as a pro.

Does anyone know if he fought in any WSB
