Hailing from an ethnicity that 90% of people regard as mud people doesn't seem to clarify in most of our minds that racism/xenophobia/prejudice are bad things in & of themselves, only bad things when other people are doing them to us. I've noticed that even if we complain about being discriminated against etc etc, often out the other side of our mouths comes some horrific slur about someone else.

My old man, for instance, is not only a racist but a self-hating racist, & keep him moaning long enough he'll start complaining about "Fvcking dirty Gyppos etc etc etc", which you'd think--as his mum & dad were Travellers, he was born in a caravan, he married a Traveller & we didn't actually become Kennicks until I was eleven--would be fairly low on the list of things he'd like to demonise.

Irony. Not always delicious, mostly just depressing.

PS: I've even heard Romany people say horrific shite about Pavees (& vice versa), when with the amount of inter-marriage & fraternising... Head, meet desk.

Where does it state he's anti-immigration?

Just because someone may have concerns about immigration does not make them anti-immigration per se. Immigration is both a positive and a negative.

For example, I am pro immigration, but not to the extent where I'd support open borders as that has a negative impact on the financial welfare of the indigenous population. Immigration with a controlled system in place (ie a points system) would be a great thing and would ensure our society is enriched with the people we need. Having an open door to millions of people is not a good thing as it increases the strain on public services, housing and jobs. It also causes wage suppression (as highlighted by Mark Carney recently).

Why do people always assume that having genuine concerns makes them anti something? If you are concerned about fuel emissions does that make you anti transportation? No. If you're concerned about the size of the welfare bill, does that make you anti-welfare? No. If you're concerned about the cost of defence, does that make you anti-armed forces. No. So what does everyone seem to lose their shit when anyone mentions the very clear negative sides of not applying a common sense approach to immigration policy?

I would suggest further contacting the hateful racist fvcks on this matter in order to ask them to stop tainting your wholly noble concerns by association, rather than complaining at those who take issue with the hateful racist fvcks.

Yes, that was probably a dig too far, which is why I deleted it, but for the record I wasn't commenting about rape, I was pointing out another social ill that a surprisingly large number of apparently sane people respond to by distancing themselves from, rather than listening to any concerns which those on the sharp end might've raised. It just seems a massive oversight, a switching-off from what the real thing is, a failure to admit there might actually be a problem by an angry distancing or an involved bit of pedantic, knickers-crossed hand-waving followed by a haughty lecture at the expense of those who dare to (apparently) misconstrue one's noble & lofty aims.

I gave the example I gave because I find what you were doing up-thread--grand-standing, beside the point, to save your ego from tarnish--mirrors what some people do when women talk about sexual assault which is immediately leap to the defence of either themselves instead of really engaging with what the person who's been harmed is trying to say.

I'll add that Datsue is a great poster and not someone that is looking into every comment with the intent of exploiting it for personal justification.

Horse, you don't have to argue with every single person to be able to post. It doesn't always have to be a confrontation. You've got a great knowledge of boxing but you don't half come across as the evil matron from a carry on film! This is just about every time you post at the minute. Chill out!

Datsue has hardly been lovely in this thread.

He's one of the most spiteful posters on here, but when he makes a fool of himself then hordes of his acolytes try to come to his rescue and attempt to vilify those having a go at him.

He might be a good poster, but he's also a nasty git.
