After more years than I care to remember I gave up on Boxing News in January. Well I've now changed my mind and have taken out a subscription for the first time.( and incidentally it DOES arrive regularly on Thursday mornings).
This is due entirely to a feeling that the editor Matt Christie is more of a traditionalist than his predecessor . Supporting this feeling is his announcement today that the ex boxers page is returning. Not a huge step in the right direction, but at least it indicates we might be getting back to 'normal'.
The 'British ' Boxing News may be on the way back !

I completely agree, I like Matt Christie, and hope he can move the publication back in the right direction.

It's improved since Matt Christie took over already.
He takes the time to reply on here every now and then as well. Things are looking up.

yes, that was good news about the ex-boxers column, and also the disappearance of the two-page fluff about what the team were thinking (often the same things) to be replaced by the weekly round-up (which contained some new stuff that was actually interesting eg honeyghan).

i like that new gigney guy too, his previews are good and that was a decent report from buglioni card. flexen is better than mcrae in the long form (i really went off mcrae after he did a piece about GGG about how he couldnt get an interview with him, really self indulgent)

christie is clearly a good editor, driving the mag in a new direction, but i do wish he would tone down some of his attempts at colourful descriptions sometimes...

Boxing News well worth a subscription at the moment.

Been buying it since 1985 so obviously I havent had many major beefs with it but I dont like how they cobble all the small shows together into one piece at the moment.

Matt doing a great job,as did tris in my opinion.it should remember it's for the hardcore fan and should remember we want previews and reports of weeks fights.A while ago they seemed to drop of oversea previews which are more relevant than ever due to us being able to watch everything online.iv been buying it every week since 82,glad ex boxers is back.i enjoy there podcast to,there website has proved immensely.all round great.

It is definitely getting there....and the team deserve a lot of credit for coming onto the forums and having an open debate and accepting some of the feedback they get. To be fair the Boxing Monthly guys do the same as well Graham H has made some interesting comments.

I am with Veriton....I did not like those pages at all where the team sort of talked to themselves and wanted more reporting or some interviews.

We've just recently moved offices and I assume we must be somewhere near Boxing News as I saw Danny Flexen in Sainsbury's this lunchtime...

Why didn't you say hello? Was it the day where chaos reigned due to the introduction of the 5p plastic bag charge? I'll doubtless be in there again today. BN is in Cannon St but the back entrance (ahem) is in Queen Victoria St, opposite the Sainsbury's.

I reckon that Sainsbury's is going to be my venue of choice on a lunchtime, so I dare say our paths will cross again. I'll be sure to make myself known next time we're both in there though.

Sorry to put a negative on a positive topic but saves a new thread being posted.

I thought it was really poor form on last weeks front page having Eddie Hearn as the feature when 2 British lads were fighting in world title fights. I didn't think too much of it last week as I thought they'll defo have them as the main feature should they win. So here we are and this weeks main feature is non over than Golovkin. I understand the arguement of what sells best but last weeks decision is a joke!

To be fair PPV is a major topic at the moment and even to get a couple of mild questions to Eddie on the subject was worthy of attention. With all due respect to the lads who boxed for titles they weren't exactly up against A list opposition.

I think the mag is definitely going in he right direction, I wasn't too sure about Matt Christie when he first started with BN as flamboyance in writing can easily be interpreted as empty waffle, but he has really grown on me and seems to have a good set of boxing values.

No preview for Crawford-Jean this week. Anyone know why?
