Lucas Matthysse Needs a New Promoter

When I look at the way he fights, his heart and determination, his ko power, now he's added boxing to his arsenal, and his specific look tells me
that Lucas Matthysse isn't being marketed right. The way he should be. Don King in his best years back in the 80's and 90s would sold to the public
that Matthysse was a destroyer from the old gladiator days and the public would have eaten it up!

Oscar and his team puts so much time
and effort favoring Canelo but I really do believe that Lucas Matthysse is a real star. He's not being marketed and promoted right. I feel bad for
guy.

Matthysse was one step away from being that guy you say he could be. He was rising up everyone's pound for pound and most feared fighter lists when Danny Garcia stopped ALL that momentum. Even though the fight was very close and I personally feel that if it weren't for that shut eye of his, LM wins that fight, it stopped all of LM's juice for the spotlight.
Then you have the war with Molina where he struggled with a very mediocre professional boxer and was knocked down twice. Those two fights made Matthysee look VERY human. He's done very well since though and seems to be dominating again.

Mind that guy Richard Schaeffer? He climbed in the ring after he stopped Peterson and screamed in the mic that we were looking at "the new Manny Pacquiao!!"
I don't just think that it's Matthysse who is poorly marketed, most of the top guys are. To really become 'household' i think the TV stations gotta invest. It's been done with Floyd, Pacman & Rousey... I think we're about to see it with Golovkin.

Having defeats against Judah, Alexander and Garcia don't look great, regardless of any controversy. He looked like a beast beating Peterson, but didn't look so good against Garcia and Molina. His boxing skills looked ok against one of the most one dimensional fighters in the sport in Provo and he's exciting to watch but I doubt he'll ever be considered elite. I'd like to see him in with Crawford or Broner for some fun fights.

It is unbelievable to think that this guy hasn't won a World title. This should be rectified shortly. He was on the wrong end of decisions against Judah and Alexander which didn't help his cause.
I think he is one of the most exciting fighters to watch. He should be billed in a similar way to Golovkin and Kovalev are, but it is harder as those guys are undefeated, and look invincible.

Matthysse is greatly overrated.
Yes he is exciting to watch and has a high KO record, but look at the guys who beat him - Garcia, Alexander and Judah.
If he was really one of the best guys in the sport P4P he would not be getting into close or controversial fights with Alexander or Judah, and Garcia beat him decisively. Even an aging Judah performed better against Garcia than Lucas did. Bradley was able to overcome Alexander, Khan was able to outbox him, Porter was able to steamroll through him. Lucas couldn't. Baldomir, Spinks, Khan and Malignaggi were all able to get past Judah who has also not showed the best chin in the past.

Garcia didn't beat him decisively, nobody has. I had him wining all of those fights, the ref in the Garcia fight was a joke.
Not sure how anyone comes to the conclusion Matthysse is overrated, he;s not in most peoples top 10, Boxrec has him 27th, with Abraham, Wilder, Pulev, Tyson Fury, Khan and Thurman all ahead of him. He's without doubt a better fighter than all of them.

If other boxers beat a guy that you lost to, it doesn't mean that fighter is worse the those other boxers. You have to consider when they fought, boxing styles etc. Trevor Berbick beat Ali, but lost to eleven fighter, so they must all be better than Ali was.
I don't think the guy is overrated at all.

Golden Boy is actually a very good promoter. Matthysse has been given many opportunities.
Top Rank would ruin him like they have many others like Mikey Garcia and Matvey Korobov.

What Lucas lacks is not a great promoter. He's got one of the best in the Biz.
He needs to refine his footwork and other basic fundamental skills. Simple as that.
Whenever a fighter has that rare 'extra' pop in their punches, not only do they pretty much stay on the popular side and overrated to some degree, they often tend to rely on landing that single KO shot way too much, and wind up getting outpointed by the better/smarter 'boxers' who are more interested in avoiding/negating that power, thereby winning- than they are standing and trading with him and/or eating his punches.
In a phonebooth though, Lucas might be king.

What is this weird cult-like fascination around Mathysse? I mean, he's good, don't get me wrong, but people act like he's borderline unbeatable.

At first i thought this thread was dumb, but i just read that he is only getting paid $500k for this fight. Not sure if there is more argentinean money on the way but it seems he should be getting way more. PBC guys get paid like a million for fighting bums on free tv.

He needs more than a good promoter

not sure what promotion has to do with it.
he's an argentine who speaks no english with now his 4th loss and no titles.
what are they supposed to promote?
i'm sure he is wealthy enough to retire in argentina when he is done boxing.
he said he didn't get up because he was worried about his eye and hopefully
his eye is ok, but he needs to step down from world class and fight someone
in the bottom of the top 20 next. this division is loaded, and so is 147,
so he isn't winning any titles even if he makes it back up the rankings.
i don't see any reason for a rematch with WBC postol as i only saw him winning
3 of the 10 rounds before the ko, and don't see him doing any better against
WBO crawford. i would like to see him fight WBA broner, but after tonight think
broner could probably beat him. him and IBF cuenca could be a big fight in
argentina next year if cuenca still has the title. at 147, he would't beat
thurman, bradley, brook, porter, and a few other top guys, and wouldn't
get a shot at floyd, marquez, or pac even if they fought again. he can work
his way back to finge contender or gatekeeper at this point.
