Picked up a copy of Joe Bugner's book at the vastly reduced price of $9.

Less than 200 pages and large font. So I wasn't expecting an epic.

But it is proving a really interesting read.

I got a copy - like you said it isn't an epic, but it is an interesting read, well worth getting a copy.

Apparently the text came from a couple of (lengthy) taped interviews with Big Joe.

I saw Joe at a speaking engagement in the UK last year - he's very knowledgeable about boxers of his era, but by his own admission he doesn't really follow today's fighters, but he can speak for hours about his fights.

Not too many people have fought Ali (twice) and Joe Frazier :box:

I liked Joe honesty. He didn't mind offering some self depreciating comments about himself.

Remember him and Cooper on that TV show a couple of years back. Cooper was still extremely bitter

Yes i remember that, such a shame Henry didn't let it drop,i like Bugner,he's a legend in british boxing and fought basically everyone and didn't let himself down.I was lucky enough to meet Harry Gibbs in Las Vegas years ago and we discussed the fight over a beer or two, happy days :TU:

we see guys smashing each other up over the Lonsdale belt and here we have a guy - an immigrant, probably not the easiest way to begin life, going 24 rounds with Ali and doing I don't know what with other leading heavyweights of his time. A super fighter, super athlete, and if a young Joe Bugner was around today, oh how boxing would be the better for it! :box: Take this Fury fight for instance. People are giving him no chance. If it was a 20-odd year old Joe going in, we'd be expecting the changing of the bloody guard.

Cooper was going to retire regardless of the result against Bugner and obviously wanted the fairy-tale ending he didn't get.

In his book Bugner said he offered Cooper a rematch on 3 separate occasions, but Cooper declined and went on claiming he had beaten Bugner by "half a point".

I haven't had the privilege of meeting Joe. But I would like to.

If only he'd managed his money a bit better he would be rolling in it by now. Millions and millions squandered.
