I know I'm reaching - really really reaching - but the upcoming fight between Golovkin & Lemieux kind of reminds me of the Benn v McClellan bout.

Benn - who won his first 22 bouts (all by kayo) was a big underdog against McClellan - who had had 33 fights winning 29 by knockout. Benn had 2 losses by the time he fought G-Man.

Lemieux - who won his first 25 bouts (with 24 knockouts) is also a big underdog against Golovkin - who's also had 33 fights winning 30 by knockout. Lemieux has two losses.

Based on that, and that alone, I am now going to have a cheeky tenner on Lemieux to win in the 10th round at 75/1. But hopefully without the tragic consequences.

I just can't see any way Lemieux will be able to take the artillery that GGG will land on him. He's already been proven to have wilted in the face of much lesser opposition and whilst he can undoubtedly crack and GGG can be pretty open defensively we have seen GGG take a shot from big punchers before (Curtis Stevens being one) and barely even blink.

I think this will be entertaining while it lasts but GGG will get him out of there within 4.

Benn was pretty much viewed the same way as Lemieux is now, an exiting but fragile champion, but Benn had learnt from his defeats and had become a good 12 round fighter, could Lemieux be in the same mould ?

The big difference is that McClellan wasn't established at the weight whereas GGG is.

Agree with you all in that GGG should win big but, as the Benn fight proved, you never know.

Which is why we love the sport.

I was just about to say that,and also,Benn by some miracle only just managed to survive the 1st round.I don't think GGG hits as hard as Benn or Gman did but he has an excellent chin and that's why he'll win this fight,so looking forward to it though

I pick and choose which fights I stay up to watch nowadays and this is one I'll definitely staying up for. Will be interesting to see how GGG approaches this one. I think he has a lot more in his armoury than cutting the ring off to land his big shots, I reckon he just fights like that because it's what the fans want to see. He has more in his locker than Lemuiex. As good a chin as he has it would be pretty naive to just go straight after Lemuiex gung-ho. Nobody is indestructible. I still see GGG coming out on top but the OP has made me think.

Is Lemieux properly prepared? I mean, in the event he gets knocked out the ring, is there somebody that can shove him back in, as unlikely as it may sound! D

Benn only survived it because the referee gave him every chance to make it through the round, and then some. I swear if he'd been knocked cold, the ref would have given him smelling salts, or stuck a finger up his arse to wake him up, who knows, maybe both.

Judging by some of the things Benn wrote in his own if you swapped the smelling salts for poppers, he'd have probably been right into it!
