For the first time in nearly 10 years I didn't bother watching the boxing on SKY tonight. Usually if a card doesn't appeal to me I still watch it in the hope of an upset or major drama. For months the quality of the SKY shows have gone downhill. Pretty much got zero interest in next weeks show too since the main event got cancelled.

With the stable Eddie has he should be able to put on fairly competitive and interesting shows each and every fight night. It's a shame most of the big name fighters and fights get reserved for PPV.

Boxing is my number 1 sport. I never thought I'd start to lose interest in it. Been watching it for 30 years with my Dad, Grandad and now my son. Not excited about the domestic output from SKY

I was only thinking this earlier on when I looked at the Birmingham card and decided that New Zealand v France would take priority tonight.

Agreed. Matchroom have served up absolute garbage this year.

My interest in boxing is at its lowest in over a decade.

Hearn serves up uninteresting tripe on a regular basis.

Did anyone watch it tonight?
It would be just typical if there were 3 fight of the year contenders in there.

Have to agree, skys coverage has gone to shit domestically.

Is it because were missing great domestic fighters (either established or on their way up) like Jamie Moore, Michael Gomez, John Murray, Thaxton, Scott Harrison etc.. Etc... Or is it as much to do with the fragmentation due to allegedly and sky?

Tonights main event was good.

Was it, missed the card tonight. On paper they dont spark huge interest - plus i work sat nights so usually catch up next day as i will tomorrow if main event was decent.

If Eddie was able to scrap the Gavin/Van Heerden fight without much fuss then surely he could give Tony Jeter or whatever his name is a wee pay off and bring a new opponent for Eubank Jr if he's been moved to top of the bill

Not that it matters but id rather see Gavin McDonnell's European title defence top of the bill,at least its a major title fight

Who would take the fight at a weeks notice though? Especially when they would then be immediately stripped of the WBA interim title for Eubank Jr's inactivity.

agree, but Macklin vs Welborn was a cracker, Egginton vs Evans was decent.

Was a decent enough night's boxing actually. Probably only what we used to expect from a half-decent Friday Fight Night, but it was quite good all the same.

Last post hits nail on head, last nights card would have been a good Friday Night Sky Show, but for Saturday it was below par. I did enjoy Macklin and Eggington fights though. The Yafai fights were pretty dire when there was loads of other stuff on to watch. In fact I switched over when the 2nd Yafai one was on.

Massively underwhelmed by Eubank Jr Headline next Saturday, he is 1/50 with the bookmakers fighting a 39 year old Boxrec rated number 127. If boxing fans on this a boxing forum are debating not actually watching it on Sky, christ knows how many tickets are actually going to be sold to fans who turn up to watch it live! Only marginal interest is to see whether Hearn has managed to keep a leash on Eubank Sr, and trained Jr not to describe his Trainers primary function as applier of vaseline. Will he call out GGG again?

At least the McDonnell fight maybe good.

On subject of Eubank Jr, I wonder if part of going with Hearn is that it is a pretty certain way to avoid a Saunders rematch whilst keeping a bit of face?

It's the WWE model. All about the PPV. Anything outside of PPV and its just marking time.

I fully intend to ditch Sky Sports when my deal is up (unless they give me another huge discount), it's nowhere near worth the money for a boxing fan.

I had it on the compute last night. Was meant to be in the background, but once the rugby was becoming a foregone conclusion i was mainly concentating on that so ended up watching the Macklin, Kal and Egg fights and bar the Yafai borefest it was actually quite good as other shave stated. However, that wasn't meant to happen - Welborn is area at best and was picked to make Macklin look good - the fight was more competitive than thought because of Macklin being well below par as he admitted at the end and as a result is now contemplating retirement as he doens't want to be at that level, which is Midland's area.

The main event worked out OK as well - but again that was by accident. Evans was described by Sky numerous times as the guy who has to work full time and can only get to Lockett's gym 2 or 3 times a week. His loss to Larry was documented and it was stated that he has questioned his position in the sport. So a main event of Eggington vs Evans is not what you expect on prime time Sky saturday night at a large arena. Now it obviously worked out a lot better than expected and they hoped with the second round heavy knockdown and Sam unsurprisngly taking a couple of rounds to fully recover and from about the 6th to a final flurry in the 12th it was routine and comfortable. I think most people's issues is the fact that he has this huge stable but very few are getting matched together - he had shown signs recently with Egg-Gavin, Fielding etc - but one didn;t happen (and there is time yet for the other not too either).

I don;t expect Rule Britannia cards every week on Sky, but something not too far off Manchester (which was a cracking card) would be nice and something to look forward too, not the usual one half decent looking fight, a couple of 1/100 mismatches and then a couple of area / English title fights just to pad it out and make sure at least one fight is competitive.

Maybe cards like Manchester every other week is a bit ambitious but somewhere halfway between would be nice. You want fights where the home fighter has done something well to get the win, not done exactly what he was supposed to all the time.

He beat Foot more convincingly than Evans in the end, but the contrast of both fights going into them was massive. Foot was unbeaten and hadn't been dropped by Douglas, hadn't been stopped by Larry E, hadn;t scraped a win against a notorious journeyman etc. There was a prestigious vacant belt on the line and while some people play down odds, to me they are very important as they at least give a gauge of how competitive afight will be and if it went a complete different way, then someone has done much better or much worse than what was expected of them, not simply just done what they were supposed to. Eggington and Foot ended up being almost 50/50 with the bookies - Egg was around 9/10 with Foot 11/10 and while a few thought Egg was too long, it did add a lot more genuine intrigue to the fight and a fair few though Foot would come away with the win, whereas on forums or twitter, i didn;t see anyone picking Evans last night..

I haven't watched Sky for ages as I no longer subscribe. In the highly unlikely situation that they transmit a decent show or fight on regular Sky Sports, I will pay for it with Now TV.

Unfortunately it seems that any half decent fight goes PPV on sky. If Joshua / Whyte is non PPV I will get it on Now TV even though it's hardly a 'big fight', my interest is high enough.

Is Ringside still going? Even when I had Sky I didn't watch it; it really was awful. The 'comedian jester' Johnnie played made me feel sorry for him, and he merits more respect than that....

And the stilted cheesy sh1t-eating grins of all involved made me cringe. I like Glen McCrory however.

I do feel SKy feel boxing fans are mugs and just a source of cash to fund other ventures. They need to sack everyone involved and start again with a new team.

No mate, they canned Ringside a few months ago. Another example of Sky's lack of interest in boxing.

Oh. At one point I liked Ringside and a boxing magazine show is welcomed (guess I will have to stick with KOTV )

I honestly just think SKY sees boxing fans as cash cows..... They will buy the subscription because they want boxing (£35 in the bank.) and then they will buy the PPVs. 3 a year = £60 plus.

Simples!

SKY Boxing are the Carlsberg Special Brew of the UK sports industry...... They know their product is crap, but they will keep producing it while the addicts are willing to pay for it....the only difference is that Special Brew is actually value for money
