Not just baiting you here tanzio I promise just interested to see if there is a consensus
For me Viloria showed up and tried harder to get the W than Lemieux. Just saying 'well Lemieux did as well as he could with that Lazer Death Ray jab of GGG's in his face' doesn't cut it.for me, Viloria had some shit to deal with too and I m o showed himself more prepared to at least try dealing with it, ie getting punched.releatedly in the face and not just using it a as an excuse to stay in his shell
Thoughts, esteemed colleagues?

I think they both showed up. Viloria performed better than Lemieux but he also has the superior skill, experience and gifts. Lemieux did what he could which amounts to little v 3G.

Had he gave his all, he'd have his face stoved in within 9 minutes, tops, I m o.

I think lemieux did all he could with no game plan no back up plan and limited skills holding him back. He could have been more aggressive but it would only have opened him up for punishment and a quicker exit.

Yep, his only chance was to catch GGG cold early but he didn't go for it (partly due to GGG's jab). Viloria performed out of his skin, he took plenty of punishment and still make it competitive at times, I thank him for giving me a few more rounds of watching Chocolatito

To me Lemieux clearly fought scared, moved around awkwardly far too much as a result, and wasn't as willing to come forward, let his hands go, and take punches to return punches as Viloria was; even when he got inside and had GGG covering up he'd typically just throw a rushed shot or two then back away, which again put him at the end of GGG's jab rather than inside it.
While GGG's performance played a major part in this I also think that Lemieux under-performed due to being very intimidated even before the fight started, which I can't say about Viloria.

Give your all doesnt mean you blindly walk into punches. He tried his hardest to WIN. And he was still trying to win at the time of stoppage, despite the dire condition he was in. Other question is whether he had a meaningful plan or whether he had a quality to execute it. But if you asking about the effort I dont see how can Lemieux be faulted in this.
Vloria on the other hand even though was more competitive, I dont think he showed more guts, perhaps less. For that reason alone that he was in the fight, whereas DL had to keep fighting despite having no success whatsoever.

Both guys clearly stepped in the ring to win and not just get a paycheck. I think that Lemieux gave more due to the differences in power between Choco and GGG. I'd much rather get hit with 350 punches by Choco instead of GGG.
Let's face it, both guys paled in comparison to their opposition. It wasn't a poorly matched up card, it's just that no one knows just how good Choco and GGG are yet. I hope they keep paring these two up on the same cards in the future because together they bring fireworks and destruction.
Btw, anyone still think Ward can handle GGG? I don't care what weight you set that matchup at, GGG demolishes him.

I thought Viloria gave it a real go. Didnt seem intimidated and gave it a real effort. Big balls imo. Only caught bits of the GGG fight. But seems neither gave up.

Good post, says it all really and a decent assessment of what actually happened.
