Aaron Pryor Vs Wilfred Benitez who wins?

At 140lbs who would win between the relentless pressure and swarming attacks of Thre Hawk and the masterfull defence and slick skills of Wilfred Benitez?

The young Benetiz was almost impossible to hit at Light-welterweight but could he avoide the relentless attacks of Aaron Pryor?

What do you think fight fans?

Great matchup. In a 10 round bout, a close decision seems inevitable. The judges might be impressed with the overall volume of punches and aggression and give the decision to Pryor, but I see the slick defensive mastery of Benitez winning the day by a point or two.

If they go at it for 15 rounds, I think Pryor would begin to find a tiring Benitez in the championship rounds and maybe even knock him down, which would result in a decision win for Pryor or possibly a TKO in the 14th or 15th round.

Great match up... Pryor would match Benitez for speed, he would be firing at Wilfred from all angles... it'd be a great fight but I see AAron being too persistant. The way to beat Benitez was to out hustle him, and with his high octane pace thats what Pryorr would do I believe... winning by clear decision or even a late stoppage... 8)

benitez in top shape and pryor without the water bottle and trickier ingestion in the second arguello fight and benitez wins...12 or 15 rounds

As this matchup is being mentioned on another thread I thought I would dig up this old one which I noticed I never added my opinions to.

As highly skilled in defence Wilfred Benitez was I just can't see him avoiding everything the relentless Aaron Pryor would be throwing at him. Benitez would of course have his moments and more than likely drop The Hawk early on. But as the rounds passed by I see Pryor slowly taking control and taking a hard fought 15 rounds points victory.

Great match up without a doubt -

My best guess is Pryor by close UNI DEC or even Split Dec -

Come on guys, Benitez would box his ears off. Pryor would not touch him. Wilfred wins an easy decision. :box: :box:

You CANNOT avoid all the punches...Pryor by TKO in later rounds beacuse of his relenteless pressure.

I'm bias but I think a Prime Cervantes would do better than either Arguello or Benitez.

Can see Benitez avoiding most of Pryor's punches for the full 15 and taking a close UD. Contrary to popular belief Pryor was not unbeatable and Benitez had the best style to win

Agree with this post totally, espescially the part about Pryor throwing punches from all angles. Although Pryor had certain flaws it didn't deter him from doing what he did best, and that was throwing combinations. He had a whole assortment of punches, and it was totally unpredictable where the next one would be coming from. That style always kept the other fighter off balance. A fighter could not get into a rythym against Pryor. Benitez would have never had a chance to get set.

Benitez would have handled Pryor's swarming style and counterpunched him to death. That's not to say Pryor wouldn't have some success but at Benitez' best I'd say he could handle what Pryor had to offer

Ohhhhh....Sorry bollox but that was not the answer we were looking for! Unfortunately you lose 50 points and will not be going to the lightening round to compete for big prizes with the other contestants.

Tough break for bollox as he was leading going into the final round.

Im going with Benitez here.

I've seen a few of both their fights and if Benitez can make a prime Leonard and Hearns miss, im sure he can make Pryor miss and hit air.

Im not saying the relentlessness wouldn't allow Pryor to hit Benitez, im sure he'll hit him, but not continully.

Benitez had magical way for avoiding punches from all angles.

And this is exactly what allows Benitez to win. Even Pryor is gonna slow down from hitting so much air

Pryor in a razor close verdict.

Benitez scores and early KD buty Pryor dusts himself off and gets on with it. Pryor scores a late KD and nearly gets Benitez out of there. Benitez stays on his feet and picks up a very close decision.

Very close fight this and great match up.

I think Pryors work rate might see him through.

Competitive and interesting, but Benitez should be too good.

One can not improve upon the classics. Other than to say this would end in the Hawk being not only ground down, but grounded.
