Something tells me the number of KD was 10 (remember the commentator on Hide vs Bowe saying something like this). Can't remember who the fighters were though.

the number of knockdowns was 16, and the bout took place during the twentieth century.
it wasnt one of those start for breakfast-finish because its going dark bare knuckle jobs.

Dempsey V Willard had a few as did Dempsey V Firpo.

In the UK the two Bassa V McCualey fights ad a fair few knockdowns.

Maybe Jack Dempsey v Jess Willard. Willard was down about 7 times i think

Remembered now - I was thinking of Carnero vs Baer, which HAS the most KD's in a heayweight contest - 10.

you`re right stu, thats the most in a heavyweight bout but i think it was eleven knockdowns not ten.

If memory serves me correct. I think he said that Hide going down 6 times was second to Carnera going down 10 times against Baer in heavyweight title history. So the jist of the story is okay, but maybe just a slip with the 10 knockdowns.

British Bantamweight champ Danny O'Sullivan tasted the canvas a lot when challenging for Vic Toweel's World title in South Africa back in the 50's.

there was 14 knockdowns in that fight and in fact that was the most knockdowns in a undisputed world title fight.
the fight i`m looking for took place in the 1920`s and was recognised by the british and european authorities as a world title fight.

Sounds one-sided as hell. But I just took a look at the Boxing News report of the fight and it was described as "one of the best battles ever seen between two fly-wts".

I have a trivia question which American fighter won ALL his fights by "ko" but got knocked down himself in every fight. (clue) he had well over an hundred fights
