Just seen his 'fight' last night. Awful matchmaking..that lad he fought was 18 and looked about 2 weights bekow him. No point to the fight, was all one way. He has had loads of amatuer experience, give him someone the same weight at least..imo matches like this are dangerous and the sport is dangerous enough as it is

Yeah, they love doing that, dont they. Throwing them poor bastards half there size. Plus that guy looked like a baby, 18 you say? Oh dear. You expect young prospect to fight low level opponents in the beginning but that was borderline criminal.

He's obviously fighting at flyweight at the mo, but does anyone know which weight he plans to make his title push at? Some may think this is a daft question but there are plenty of examples of fighters having their early fights a weight above the division they eventually plan on pushing forward in so they don't have to go through the rigmorole of cutting weight early on when they are fighting (hopefully) every few weeks.

Whilst I agree it was a total farce, doesn't he look an unbelievable talent

He looks good but unbelievable? That's a bit strong at this point in my opinion. I could be mistaken but I don't think it was too long ago that a significantly smaller opponent dominated him and completely shut his eye in the WSB.

Ahhhh didn't see that, only seen clips of his amateur successes.

Nowt against the lad he looks a decent prospect, but last night did him no favours. He even started showboating and taunting the kid. If you are going to taunt an opponent wait until you fight someone who can hit you back and not some lad who posed no threat whatsoever

He's an ok boxer but fornicating deluded, he thinks Roman Gonzalez hasn't goy ANY skill he says he's just a tough man and he thinks he's got the skill to box his head off! If you don't believe me listen to him from 2:10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FSYBXtkDU8

That lad they put in with Selby was truly awful. Looked like, and boxed like, any scrawny teenager they found lurking around outside.

I watched that too. He would box Gonzalezes head off just because he had some international success in the amateurs. One thing is confidence and other is delusion. He did beat some good fighters at WBS but he beat Conlan when that was only 20. Curious to see his progress though in pros, he is certainly talented.

It was one of the worst matched fights I've seen in a televised fight this year.

If Mick's aim was to get a few laughs, he thoroughly succeeded! I seriously had tears, up until the lad was getting battered, when it stopped being funny.

Shame that such a touted pro faced such a pointless foe. He could have done what Maruta is doing this weekend and get in there with a genuine test from the off.

That bloke 10(6)-0-0 surely the most padded record you'd ever see

He's better than his brother who has a world title imp. Granted "unbelievable" may be a bit strong but cut the lad some slack, it's only his second outing and he was matched hard in his first (compared to most). Amir Khan fought some caretaker with a 3-6 record in his first fight, Selbey fought the African champion who was 15-2 or something. Latest opponent will have just been a filler, earn some cash before xmas plus he can only beat who's put in front of him.

Cut him some slack?

I acknowledged that he is good and you acknowledged that unbelievable may be a bit strong, so where is the slack to be cut?

Good point well made :TU:

I think I read the overall negative vibe of the whole thread and meant to aim the slack cutting generically.

Like you say, looks good, unbelievable is a bit strong.
