When the Lockett-Elcock match up was called off, I didn't bother watching Saturday's bill but have just read that Tony Docherty won on points versus Kirk.

How did he look? Was it comfortable?

Is he related to Ken Doherty, the snooker player?

I like Doherty, he does some clever things in there amongst all the bombs he throws.

Kirk got a bit of a hiding but survived till the end. Doherty was really desperate for the stoppage. I reckon he'll be British champ one day at least.

He looked good, but i'm not as excited about some. Yet to fight someone who punches back.

Kirk did well to go the 4 round distance, and was full of admiration for Doherty afterwards.

Ya Gary Youngs, Andersons, n Dohertys there fighting at such a low level its imposible to see what theyv'e got there not boxing anybody clever, ambitious, fit, or anything and the level there boxing at is such a low level you never see them take hard shots.

no he isnt, sky would of bought that up as a selling point for the fighter.

I've been keeping my eye on this guy since the amateur days and Nicky Piper is quite correct in the way he discusses his amateur career - he looked like the best British amateur I had seen in years (since Spencer Oliver).

Not as convinced of him since he's turned pro - I did think he was running out of steam a bit towards the end of the FOUR rounder and I do think his leg speed isn't as quick as it was as an amateur. I'm still convinced he can drop a weight aswell.

However, still a big believer I think a certainty for the British title.

Good call, the kid can really fight. One of the better 'prospects'.

Oh don't get me wrong, I do believe that completely - however I'm starting to reanalysis my initial view which is that he has the ability to top the rankings globally for a view years.

He's still for me the best prospect in Britain (although Mitchell has special handspeed) so yes, I'm a fan.

I saw him at the rivermead and while a nice crisp boxer he doesnt have the power to make it past british level Im afriad. Not at this juncture he may develop of course but I cant see it happening.

I saw him get beat by Ali Nuumembe in the Commonwealth games in Manchester,so far he has been hand fed opponents.

Seems a bit fleshy to me, which reflects his lack of discipline in the gym.

Yeah, it was harder to see when he wore a vest in amateurs - his tiredness in the last round also reflects poor dedication. Those are aspects that you can work on, he's got movement and shot selection which cannot be taught though. He's 21 now - I do think the power will come, it was there are as amateur.

As for him being the best prospect in Britain, it depends on what is labelled as a prospect - Carl Froch at 26 and with two pro titles in his belt should be moving away from a prospect.

IMO the main list of prospects include Haye, Doherty, Arthur, Mitchell, Anderson, Mutley, Fry, Foster Jnr, Nigel Wright. I think Jennings is another who should be in for a major domestic title now and I don't classifying as a prospect more a young contendor.

Out of those listed I would consider Doherty as possibly the best, its a strong list and David Haye is undoubtely most tips to suceed out of that list. Still not convinced about his chin though, I know Doherty's is untested, but at least I have no reason to doubt it.

I think you left a smal detail out ... he was stopped on a cut! In the same competition he beat the accomplished Repton southpaw Danny Happe and in the Four Nations he outpointed then ABA king, Michael Lomax.
Not bad at all.

Doherty and Kevin Evans I think were destined for the top honours at the games (IMO), both suffered cut stoppages, Evans' was particularly controversial.
