Why do some boxing fans and writers dislike Gennady Golovkin?

the only boxer who could beat him, is ward but that aint a given .he is such a good boxer with such power i would go triple gbrilo33 wrote:triple ggg mugs of the division in truth.as much as i like andy lee. its a joke
Lee agreed to fight Golovkin but it was Gennady who pulled out after his dad died, even Tom Loeffer said himself that Andy Lee was the only person willing to fight him at that pointbrilo33 wrote:triple ggg mugs of the division in truth.as much as i like andy lee. its a joke

That's fair enough, but when the backlash against ggg includes picking canelo to school him its madness.
There is some real hate in for example boxingforum24. Of course, those haters are minority, but they keep pouring dirt on Gennady.crusader wrote:'Hate' may be a bit strong, but I've seen plenty of people on Twitter and other forums (e.g. BS) be what I'd consider overly negative about GGG, as if they have an agenda against him or are fed up with some of the over the top hype and are trying to balance it with their own nonsense.
Here is an example of if not a hater, then an idiot. Lara is a Haymon fighter who can't fight on HBO by default, and he hasn't moved any further than calling out Golovkin on twitter. You seriously want to fight ? Have Haymon contact Loefler and talk.kidbazooka1 wrote:ThisLackeos wrote:Golovkin has some of the most obnoxious fans in boxing, aside from Mayweather. The guy has not one elite level fighter on his resume yet his nuthuggers will say well know one wants to fight him.
Lara calls him out but his team wasnt intrested and he doesn't wanna move up one measly division to fight Ward.
But but no one wants to fight him its getting old.
Froch retired when called out by GGG and Ward hasn't fought anybody with a pulse in 2 years. His best wins are 4+ years old. Before he beats anybody decent of his own size, he will remain a has been. In the last 2 years, Golovkin in fact has proven more than Ward and Froch together.hurricanemitch14 wrote:Fans don't hate GGG, fans can't stand GGG nuthuggers that are blind. His best win(Murray) just lost to AA, a guy that's done been dominated by Ward and Froch. Yet GGG fans act like he's superman and has proven more than Ward, Froch and Floyd.
This exact sentiment all the time.Lackeos wrote:Golovkin has some of the most obnoxious fans in boxing, aside from Mayweather. As long as so many others are giving him more credit than he deserves, I feel no desire to give him any additional credit.
There's no such thing as "wrong" country or "wrong" color, just different country or different color.Tony1244 wrote:People will always hate on athletes or teams that are excellent. I think it's really that simple.
Of course some of it is wrong country or color, but that has always been the case as well.
Yep, Canelo earned his "reputation" by beating smaller fighters. Cotto was likely 12 pounds lighter than him yesterday. And who is Cotto ? The fighter who lost ALL of the most important fights in the last 6 years except the one against a disabled person ? Besides, Trout and Lara arguably defeated Canelo.RandomUsername wrote:GGG has never fought anyone. Compare that to Canelo who fought Mayweather and beat Cotto. GGG needs to earn his reputation the WBC can't simply rank it up for him.
Although Ward is at 175 now, it would help GGG to beat him and the likes of a Kovalev to earn his due. It's no different than when fans were asking Floyd to move up to face Triple G, the same should be required of Golovkin.ikorolev wrote:Yep, Canelo earned his "reputation" by beating smaller fighters. Who does GGG need to beat "to earn his reputation" ? He is ready to fight any other MW champion or another top fighter who can be on HBO.

Fair is fair, although I know that fans who aren't objective enough to admit this.
Golovkin was ready to meet Floyd in the middle, at 154, which is the weight where Floyd was a champion. The middle between Golovkin and Kovalev/Ward is 168 where he has never fought to say nothing of holding a belt. Nevertheless, after unifying MW, Golovkin would likely want to take those fights, but will Kovalev and Ward even be able to make 168 and remain competitive ?Undefeated49-0 wrote:Although Ward is at 175 now, it would help GGG to beat him and the likes of a Kovalev to earn his due.
