Interested to hear others views on this. I’m not that impressed with Canelo. For a strong young Mexican in against an overmatched opponent on a huge stage, I felt he was far too economical with his punch output and lacked the killer instinct stars of the past had. There were 30-60+ seconds at a time when he just followed Cotto around without throwing anything. Although he hasn’t been in with a Middleweight yet, how do you think he’d far against the British/Irish trio of 1) Lee 2) Saunders 3) Eubank Jr?

I think both Lee and Saunders would cause him a lot of problems. Canelo doesn’t seem to hurt opponents unless they decide to stand and trade, and he’d be a less physical presence than Chavez Jr was for Lee to deal with. Canelo struggles with guys who move, but his defence and punch accuracy looked good against Cotto.

Given talk of a GGG-Canelo showdown towards the end of next year, I think there’s a good chance at least one of these three could be fighting one of them in the first half of the year.

I think Canelo-Eubank Jr would be an absolute cracking fight if Eubank looks good against O'Sullivan.

Maybe winner of Lee-Saunders for GGG and loser of that or Eubank Jr for Canelo? The winner of Jacobs-Quillin also seems a likely opponent while Lemieux will probably need next year to get back on track.

I cant see any of them causing much trouble at this moment.

Lee will not survive the pressure, he is too shaky under fire and Canelo is nowhere near as cagy as Quillin, he will bring it.

Other two are far from the world level in my opinion. Saunders barely outboxed Ryder. He would be out of his depth against Canelo both technically and physically. Eubanks has a physicality but technically and stylistically he has a long way to go. I hope to see improvement under Booth but it remains to be seen.

BJS has the best style to beat him but I don't think he quite has the pop in his punches to push him back.

Canelo I can see moving up the divisions over the next 5 years. If he ever fights at SM his style would be made for De Gale.

I could see De Gale counter punching him and moving away to rack up the rounds whilst also having the power to stop Canelo walking through him. That fights a long way away though.

Lee and eubank beat him on points(if in england,if us no one beats apart from floyd cause de la hoya has the golden envelope)

Dont think it was floyds power that kept him at bay,it was his movement and speed that baffled canelo. Floyd is a master at hitting and not getting hit,ther is no one in world boxing that comes close to floyd at this

Don't forget he hasn't fought a proper middleweight yet plus Lee can bang. Tough one would like him fight one if the guys mentioned but can't see it.

Dont think it was floyds power that kept him at bay,it was his movement and speed that baffled canelo. Floyd is a master at hitting and not getting hit,ther is no one in world boxing that comes close to floyd at this

True but I thought at the time Canelo felt the punches from Floyd. Strange as he looks a solid unit build wise but can't put muscles on a chin. I thought he looked hurt against Vanda earlier in his career but he struggled with Lara's movement also.

Was another tough one to score. I thought it could've went either way. Funny you saying that about DLH I said exact same thing to my Mrs the other night! Loved him as a fighter and can't stick him as a promoter! Talks pure pish!

I reckon he would beat them all on the same night.

I mean, the great big drainy ginger coward wont fight actual middleweights, so, well, I don't see him taking on anyone even bigger,any time soon. Not without stacking the cards anyhoo

I've always thought Mayweather has real snap in his punches.
People have had the gameplan to walk through him but his power has put them off.
I always thought the reason he didn't knock people out was as if he sat down on his punches he's got more chance of getting caught.
His check hooks seem to have venom.

His move up the weights could be a mixture of him getting bigger and a lack of opposition at middle post GGG.
I'm De Gale can win big fights and acquire close to superstar status in the next 3-5 years he becomes a viable fight. Short term his deal with Haymon could achieve this stateside.

I think Canelo is relatively feather fisted at LMW so moving up could be his undoing. Whilst none of our guys are world beaters, they all have a chance as Canelo doesn't have the pop to keep them honest.

Someone on this thread talked about Andy Lee trading with him - best thing Andy could do. Andy punches very hard and if they were trading, there's only one winner.

mayweather's power could keep Canelo honest because he couldn't anticipate the shots coming at all, they were too fast (and had no telltales), so he was on edge all night. well, that, plus he's a great big stiff lumbering clueless fvckin twat.

Canelo beats any of the Brits quite comfortably.
