A lil g Fanboy Nightmare

No, I am not gonna do a Cheppaaa and act like I dreamt this...but I am nevertheless making a prediction.

A month from now, Canelo will still be WBC middleweight champion.
And, if there is a fight with lil g happening next May, it will be at 155, 157 tops.
Or there will be no fight.

How?

The WBC is giving Canelo 15 days to decide whether or not he will fight Gennady-
not 15 days to decide if that defense is at 155 or 160.

Canelo can go to the WBC, say he will fight Golovkin and ask that they sanction the defense at a maximum weight of 155.

And if you think that is impossible guess again...the WBC has done exactly that many times.

And with the money on the line here, my guess is they will do it again.

Yeah, I know you lil g huggers are going to go a little apeshit over this...too bad.

And don't act like you didn't know it was going to happen when it does exactly as I say it will.

This seems relevant here:
@WBCBoxing wrote:World Boxing Council ‏@WBCBoxing Nov 17
@Luigui_90 the rule says everything below 160 is middleweight. If you are very picky you can say 154.1 - 160 is middleweight. We approve of

World Boxing Council ‏@WBCBoxing Nov 17
@Luigui_90 *if the fighters agree in 156 but we'd still sanction it if they weighted more because for us it's below 160

Are your predictions accurate?
Possibly, that may come to pass as you said.

Are you right?
No, Canelo demanding that GGG fights at a catchweight for a middleweight title is bullshit and he should be stripped. Because he is either a) finding a reason not to fight GGG or b) trying to gain an unfair advantage over a legit MW for a MW title.
Either way the sanctioning body SHOULD not allow him to call the shots.
Will they? Probably
but anyone defending that position is a total asshat!

As a card carrying member of the lil G huggers, I couldn't give a flying finger fck about it anymore. Yes, Canelo and the WBC will look like beanbags for going back on their words which makes Boxing look pathetic yet once again but honestly, if i'm being honest, i don't blame them one bit.

Here's why:

-If i'm the WBC, i'm going to make far more money with Canelo packing this belt in his suitcase for his fights in Vegas bi-annually and at only 25yrs old, Canelo could have a long and prosperous reign. The PPV numbers from Saturday Night can soften anyone's demands, i'm sure.

-If i'm Canelo, i'm definitely going to now push my weight (literally) around to get what I want. If Canelo feels that he has a better chance against GGG at 155 then i have no problem with him making that demand. Look, I hate catchweights and always will and i've been very outspoken about Cotto's demands but my angst was more towards Cotto because i never felt that he deserved it. Cotto beat no one to grab that title so it was twice as pathetic when he hijacked it. But Canelo deserves it more than Cotto. Canelo will and wants to fight the best and he's proved that.

-I've known from the start that GGG was never fighting the winner of Cotto/Canelo so i'm not "apeshit" about anything. GGG is the most avoided boxer in history for a reason and it's because he's the most dangerous and destructive puncher the sport has ever seen. You don't need to carry the lil G hugger card to know that so we aren't butthurt because we'll just look towards the next KO victim like we always do and hope that one day, one of these "top P4P" fighters grow a pair and sign the line. Probably will never happen, i'm ok with it.

-Lastly, I actually want Canelo to keep this belt and I want him to defend it as long as possible. Screw it. The last 2 fights have made me a believer in this kid as I always suspected that his success was fabricated. I was wrong. This kid's pretty darn good and he's got the looks, the personality and loyalty of many and he's GREAT for boxing. And honestly, boxing would be better off with Canelo holding the belt and lineal championship than GGG. I'm a realist and not blinding by my admiration for GGG to realize that.

There will be other fights out there for GGG and eventually, he'll have a chance to show people like KC how elite he really is. In the meantime, we'll just have to keep swatting away the detractors who can't analyze boxing talent with their eyes. The GGG haters will always have ammunition of some kind to disprove his worth. Once the resume proves what we already know, they will come up with something else as to why he's not the best. It's not my first rodeo.

But my fight is over...Canelo won me over and he's got my permission to avoid GGG and make some different magic with other opponents. But one thing, Canelo....you've been fighting in America for 10 years. Buy Rosetta Stone or get a tudor, I don't care how you do it but you've got to speak English already. You've already got Mexico at your feet, that's done. Start speaking in clear English and your fanbase doubles. Just a thought.

GGG start talking English? How about Canelo? GGG talks better English than Canelo does.

If Canelo continues to demand 155, like he said "I am the champion and he has to come to my weightclass, he will face even more backlash than he has gotten now. Canelo needs to man up or give up the belt. This is pathetic, and anyone that supports it is as well, imo.

The sad part of this will be if GGG agrees to Canelo's weight penalty and still put him to sleep in devastating fashion (I'm hoping so) but to be totally honest Canelo is just doing what Manny and Floyd have done to a few of their opponents.

I'd prefer to see the fight at the rightful 160lb limit the way it and all title fights should be fought (at full weight) but they are determined to give Canelo every advantage to try and turn him into the next Superstar of the sport.

I hope it backfires and GGG moves into that place because I don't think we will have a lot of close and controversial fights with him as Champion as we have had with Canelo as champion.

Great responses so far in this thread, particularly Caldo.

His post indicates a pretty clear cut understanding of exactly what I was getting at,
tho I am not as big a cheerleader for Canelo as he appears to be.

Let me clarify if folks did not see my response to Husker in another thread.

I am NOT a fan of fighters using their A-side status to make unfair demands on opponents.

I didn't like it when Pac did it to Cotto and Cheato

I didn't like it when Floyd did it to Canelo.

And I am not thrilled with the prospect of Canelo doing the same to lil g.

But the last case IS different from what Pac did in a couple of ways.
(while actually similar to what happened between Floyd and Saul).

First, Golovkin has maintained he can go up or down for the right fight.
This is his chance to put his money where his mouth is.

Second, I cannot see Gennady crying foul too loudly when he was trying to do the same thing to Ward.
What goes around comes around.

So no, I am not going to give a damn either way what happens with the WBC's rancid belt.
And yeah, Canelo and Gennady is now the 3rd or 4th best fight out there that can be made
(Kovalev/Stevenson, Kovalev/Ward, and Rigo/Loma are probably better).

I want to see them fight.

But, to me whether they fight at 160 or 155, it will be as it should be.

Not because it is right or I think that is the best way to go, but because this is what BOTH men made happen
by their past actions and statements.

I wonder if six months from now GGG doesn't have an easier time making 155 than canelo. Canelo looked absolutely huge and not fighting until May is not going to make losing the wait any easier. GGG seems like the type to always be in shape (similar to a floyd or bhop) whereas canelo definitely lets himself go a bit when he isn't training for a fight.

That would be ironic and I can totally see that.

And that being the case, I can also see Undefeated's scenario taking place...
Gennady making 155 then wrecking Canelo anyway.

And if that does happen, won't that actually prove Golovkin's elite status better than if the fight took place at 160?

Golovkin could agree to 155, then come at 160, pay a fine and beat a crap out of Canelo next day.

Canelo just has big bones which makes him look huge/bigger than his opponents of the same weight, we all know Miguel Cotto was never meant to be a MW so the size disparity was obvious.

He won't look as monstrous in size over Triple G because we all know that Golovkin usually comes into his fights on fight night at 170ish.

I think they will look equal in size on fight night but Canelo will look slightly bulkier and GGG will look more muscular/toned.

Golovkin is being allowed a slight pass by me on taking this fight with Canelo at a lower weight because even though he said he could make 154 for Floyd it is Canelo who is in the driver's seat and can make the demand for the weight. If it was the other way around then I would be pointing the finger at Golovkin.

GGG already responded to Canelo Alvarez demands at fighting at 155. GGG already said no.

Brut and his multiple accounts are really making some garbage posts these days.

With Floyd gone Brut's really displaying his lack of boxing knowledge.

Canelo and Golovkin are the same size.

Canelo has the exact same argument for 155 against lil g that Floyd had against Canelo for 152- a well documented history of the fighter saying he would lose the weight to get the big fight. And Saul will be able to go the WBC and show them their own history of granting catch weights in title fights.

Whether we like it or not (and I have already said my piece about title fights not contested at the belt limit) Saul will have a valid argument.

He will be able to say "I have yet to fight a full fledged middleweight and am planning to defend my 154 lb belt soon so I am not moving up yet. So it would be fair for me to fight Golovkin with a limit. You did it for other fighters, surely you can accommodate me"

155, 157, 160 whatever if Golovkin and Canelo step into the ring. Golovkin is going to dominate and knock out Canelo.

Correct, he has none.

Looked at the rankings wrong.

But if you think about it, that will make his argument not to fight at 160 stronger.

He can say he is trying to regain the belt in his alleged "true" weightclass.

The point is, he is going to have strong arguments and several precedents to force the fight at 155.

You own me let alone anyone, your a classic, WBC couldn't care less about the weight, only that they fight each other, if they don't fight then canelo gets stripped
