Brook-Bizier

Kevin Bizier is the IBF mandatory and reports from Canada (which could be wrong of course) are that this will happen next.

In his last fight Bizier defeated an unbeaten opponent (who barely got by Breidis Prescott shortly before), but he's already lost twice to Jo Jo Dan and seems to be well off elite. Brook clearly has world class talent, so I find it disappointing that he's been a pro for eleven years yet fought only one top ten opponent.

Camp Eddie is lining up Khan.

Rubbish match up as you said Bizier already lost twice to Dan,they were both close from what i mind but Brook destroyed Jo Jo so cant get up for this one at all, hopefully Kell gets a unification so he can swerve this

That's a fight I would like to see (I'd favor Brook), so I hope it occurs soon and the Dan-Gavin-Bizier matchmaking abates.

Ya, both Dan-Bizier fights were close and at least for me quite enjoyable. Those are the types of even match-ups I like to see, not stuff like this.

I really wish Brook had been 'bizier' over the past few years, he has just not fought enough for my taste. And now this guy.

Bizier was robbed against Dan in their 2nd fight imo, he is nowhere near the standard of Brook though. Kelly is severely wasting his time at the moment, and possibly his best years as a pro.

I thought the rematch was very close, though I did think that Bizier would get the decision. He started well but on my card he lost nearly all the rounds in the second half, as he seemed to go to sleep a bit after scoring the KD while Dan characteristically showed heart, a good workrate, and solid stamina if not much else.

This is the thing you get with the IBF. They are probably the most strict at enforcing mandatorys but their mandatorys can be absolute sh1te at times.

Yep I agree.

It's nice that they're relatively strict with enforcing mandatories and ordering eliminators, but they like to put the same guys back in those eliminators and it often results in weak stuff like this. I think that Dan became mandatory by defeating Bizier, who after just one fight (a majority decision against a 12-4 opponent) was in an eliminator that he won to get his turn as mandatory. Don't be surprised to see Fredrick Lawson, the guy Bizier defeated in his last fight, to become the next mandatory.

But he'll fight a top welterweight next fight though :OhYes:

Serious matter this fight will be a joke even Hearn will have difficulty promoting it.

Bad matchmaking and injuries for me have seriously damaged Kells prime years.

No matchmaking involved in mandatory challenger's my friend, and the Frankie Gavin fight was a keep busy fight only a couple of months after his mandatory. If it was a regular Saturday night show or on an undercard to, for example, Froch/Groves 2, then nobody would have batted an eyelid.

Just had a Twitter search seems like Hearn is going to do the deal this weekend in Canada with Yvon Michel for the fight and Kell is going to travel to Canada for the fight in March, as it does not appeal over here. Then fight Khan in the summer.

I reckon it will be main support for Adonis Stevensons next fight. Still a joke Kell fighting him in Canada if true.

Not really, it will be a good earner for a pretty straightforward defence. That fight wouldn't sell in Sheffield.

I keep reading that Brook is arguably no1 welterweight, in the thread about us having so many world champions he is rated as our top man by most.

Yet he toiled to a title win against a very ordinary champ in Porter and is now about to embark on his 3rd attrocious defence.

All the while it's deemed acceptable to slate Khan for ducking him and fighting nobodies.

I'm quickly losing interest in Kell Brooks career

guys....use your noggins

Brook has to fight his madatories, simple as. If you dont do that you will lose your belt and therefore the bargaining power to get the big fights.

Expect Brook to wallop this fella then get a meagafight next year. In June and Khan would be nice.

Every boxer in history has had to fight their mandatories, be it tyson or calzaghe or hatton. be critical of the voluntary defences but not the mandatories.

End of rant.

IBF has always had mandatory bum-fights.

Hatton beat Urango and then dropped the belt after the IBF demanded he fight Ben Rabah (whom Urango had just beaten for the vacant belt before he fought Hatton).

Same thing here - Brook beats Jo Jo Dan, who beat Bizier - and next thing you know is the IBF hands Bizier a shot as well.

Marky my friend, I think of matchmaking as the process of matching two fighters. Even if someone is a mandatory this process still applies, and of course it's often the boxer and his team's decision to take the fight in the first place rather than to drop the belt and fight other opponents. They can also seek an extension on the mandatory so that they can fight a better opponent prior to making the mandatory defense, and in many cases this extension isn't even needed as the mandatory isn't due for many months--enough to get another fight in before.

Petty semantics aside, I can understand that Brook probably wants to keep his belt and I'm not enjoining him to drop it, but I find a series of fights against Dan, Gavin, and Bizier to be very lackluster considering Brook's obvious talent, and given that he's been a professional for over a decade I think he should've fought better opposition by this point.

Try using your noggin.

People may well understand that Brook has to fight mandatories to keep his belt, and they may think it's wise for him to do so, but that in no way precludes them from being disappointed with the quality of this fight, thinking that his recent opposition has been very underwhelming, and believing that someone with his talent should've faced better opposition by now; again, just one clear top ten fighter in an eleven year career despite widely being considered as a top talent, and that's the type of record that doesn't make it obvious that a big fight is just creeping around the corner.

Who is paying the IBF to pick these mandatories?

If Brook would be a bit busier then I think we could forgive this type of match up - but it only seems like a short while ago he fought Dan his last mandatory.

Danny Garcia has had a bit of stick for his opponents, but in his last three fights (assuming the Guerrero one takes place) he has fought two former multiple weight champions (only recently dethroned) and a reigning Light Welter champion.

Gavin, Dan and Bizier isn't going to get the big name he craves and his skill deserves..... even if he went down the big name, limited threat route - such as Alfonso Gomez, Malignaggi, Bailey, Alvarado etc - it would be better than these lot who carry nothing.

Yes, I agree with Rhino in he needs to fulfil his mandatory obligations - but at the moment with the rankings these should be mark time "add ons" and not the basis of his career. He should be having more than one fight between mandatories. 3 fights a year is not enough, when none of the opponents have been particularly great.

I was hoping Bizier would of moved up to light-middle permanently.

Tough situation for Kell he's got to fight his mandatory as his belt is still his global selling point.
This fight struggles to sell well in the UK unless it features a stacked undercard. Unfortunately any type of card that gets stacked on Sky end up on PPV

He won't have any trouble promoting it, that's the problem. A percentage of knowledgeable boxing fans will see through it, but the mainstream audience will see no issue with it.

Brook seriously needs to step up his game, far to much talk of big fights but constantly fighting nobodies. He should be embarrassed.
