Is DeGale not news worthy :??

Well this is a site with fans making topics and talking about what catches their interest. If there is not much talk on it, that translates to not much interest. Under the radar due to lack of interest

Definitely behind the Fury-Klitschko fight in terms of level of story. I watched it this morning.

It's because he has the charm of a Speak And Spell and his fanbase could fit in a Vauxhall Corsa.

Honestly thought DeGale was different gear last night. I understand that Bute was supposed to be past it but with Heredia as part of his team he really showed up and got some confidence after a few rounds. Thought it was the right decision. Bute coming forward he landed a few but a lot of his work was missing or being blocked by DeGale. When DeGale went to work he had no trouble landing and at times took Bute to school.

But Fury did win the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world, arguably the greatest and most prestigious sporting accolade On the planet (certainarly in years gone by). He did so by beating a champion who'd not lost in ten years, has made more defences than anyone else in history, in the champions back yard, and started as 5/1 underdog.

On the other hand DeGale beat a 35 year old man who'd fought twice in 3 years, winning 1 losing 1.

Not taking anything away from DeGale, but Furys win is a far bigger story

I agree 100%, it was an incredible and historic night for Fury. I just don't like hearing DeGale getting ridiculed, he's world class and the number 1 in his division but most British fans don't like him.

No, and on any other night, or perhaps with a more devestating performance, there would be more coverage.

Abraham and Jack are both beatable.

As mentioned above, Furys win is a bigger story. DeGale is obviously more talented as a fighter though, over the course of history the heavyweight champion is usually the least skilled Boxing world champion around.

I think DeGale is quality, have always liked him apart from when he tried to play the bad guy in the Groves build up.

Whilst I felt the Fury fight kept my interest until the final bell as I didn't know what was happening, it was refreshing to watch a pretty good fight afterwards where there were more punches than clinches. Of course Fury is the story and fair play to him for that, even if he'd have been stopped in 3 rounds like I predicted then it would have been a bigger story. Underdog Brit beats longtime heavyweight champion is headline stuff and even happening a day earlier, holding its own with the Davis Cup win.

Degale needs that Groves rematch to right a wrong and to capture the publics imagination

If De Gale wants the public to back him then he needs to drop his cocky act- it is fake, he is masking insecurity and it is so transparent/ Nobody likes someone that is pretending to be someone they're not. When Ali, Naz, Eubank, Mayweather were arrogant and cocky then that was their true personalities, it was genuine and believable. De Gale just comes across like a total fanny. The sticking the tongue out goading of Bute was disrespectful and uncalled for and British folk wont like that unless you can back it up 100% and your personality matches your in ring display.

Whilst De Gale is a good fighter and should beat all the other title holders in that division, he doesn't do enough. He just does enough to get the win, he either doesn't have the drive or confidence in his fitness to go out and dominate a fight by working for the full fight. He takes a breather too often, meaning that he kills the action for prolonged periods. When you spend your time fighting on the back foot as well then it doesn't tie in with the bravado act (Mayweather aside).

The original post was asking why his win went largely unheralded.

He is a marmite personality, in that most people would rather lock him in a cupboard than hear him talk.

Following his reasonably impressive win against a faded fighter he was widely expected to beat he spoke of wanting to face Abraham's at the O2. The only way he can genuinely garner a punter footfall is if there is a backstory between him and his opponent (Groves or Froch exclusively).

Realistically the O2 he speaks of would have to be Newcastle or Sheffield O2 Academy 2, the smaller room usually home to Carol Decker's T'Pau, self-pitying Sandi Thom or tribute acts like Simply Redneck (who do country and western versions of Mick Hucknall songs).

The Chunky one certainly has some skills, but a marquee name he is emphatically not and he is unlikely to become one in the 'buture'.

When a british fighter becomes heavyweight of the world it would be hard for any boxer to of had much media coverage. But saying that I just dont see any fights for Degale that will capture the general publics attention or build his fan base over here if he was to beat Jack/Abraham out in the states I dont think many people outside of boxing would be that interested. The best thing that could of happened for Degale was for Groves to of beaten Badou Jack and then for the two of them to of had a massive summer stadium fight for both belts where they would of built up the whole Arsenal/Chelsea angle and would of given him a lot of media exposure.

But he still comes across as a bit of a smug git and that will do him no favours.

I don't know why he doesn't have the support of some others but he's just not that popular. He really needs to fight and beat a recognised name over here to build a fanbase. And not being that school playground bully character he was pre Groves, in the build up to it, would probably help.
Some guys suit the bad guy role. James just comes off as a bit of a wanker.

Made hard work of it for me or maybe a Bute actually had a new lease of life.

I actually fancy Jack to beat Degale I think he's high on confidence would relish being the underdog again.

50/50 fight for me.

I really like DeGale, he just seems a normal lad. Saturday was a bit of a struggle and probably a harder nights work than he expected. 168 isn't as strong as it was with Froch and Ward out the picture but there are some decent fights to be made and DeGale is in a good position. With Matchroom and Haymon so the big fights should be easy enough to make. Matchroom obviously have a good working relationship with Sauerland if he wants the AA fight.
