I saw the Creed movie today. It was really good, up there with the original Rocky. It was probably Stallone's best acting performance. He should win a best supporting actor Oscar. The fight scenes were great and were filmed more often close up than the other movies. Tony Bellew is a good actor and he portrayed the heavyweight champion.

Haven't seen the movie yet but i always felt the reason for filming the fight scenes so close was to hide the lack of boxing skill in the actor.

Bellew is a real boxer, so I don't think that was the reason. Actually, the boxing looked more realistic than any Rocky movie before and the head punches looked real. It was like a referee's point of view mostly, even closer than that. There was more balance to the punches, like more to the body instead of just punches to the head. Max Kellerman and Jim Lampley were the commentators for the championship. Michael Buffer announced. It was done like an HBO event.

I meant to disguise the actor's lack of boxing not Bellew i know he's a professional.
Movie does look good though from the clips ive seen look forward to watching it.

Rocky IV was the most successful of the franchise from a grossing standpoint. Did 300M at the box office. The original was next closest at 225M. Rocky II did 200M. III and V were disappointing. Balboa also did pretty well at 160M. Guessing Creed ends up somewhere below Balboa at the box office, closer to the Rocky III range. Good movie tho but it's hard to compare it to any of the first 4 Rocky's which were all classics. For what it was in a brand new era and time, it was good and pays great homage to its predecessors.

Haven't seen it yet, but the reviews are promising.
From what I can gather Bellew plays a loudmouthed oaf, who tries to intimidate his opponent with his hard man routine.
Obviously nothing like he is in real life

Why is the release date almost 2 months later in the UK. I was thinking of dragging a lady friend along to watch this before Christmas. No such luck.

Although it will not reach the heady heights of your Rocky 1-IV, Creed is set to be a pretty big success! Opened much higher than expectations and with very good reviews. Looking forward to seeing it.

The fight scenes in Rocky to Rocky IV are so funny. Entertaining, but also hilarious. The sounds of the punches are like someone dropping a box on the floor, great films though. I am pretty sure Stallone spoke before Rocky Balboa came out about how embarrassed he was looking back at those scenes, which is why he made the fighting in that film far more physical. Sounded like Tarver accidentally hit him hard on a couple of occasions.
Looking forward to this being out in the UK.

Films are not reality.
Making a fight scene more realistic does not necessarily make it better.
The fight in Rocky Balboa was ugly.

They are not reality, but Sly has a real passion for boxing, which is why I think he was slightly embarrassed about them now he looks back at it. The fight in Rocky Balboa was ugly, but wasn't simply left jab followed by right overhand which we saw from Apollo Creed and Ivan Drago.

I hear shotgun blasts were used as sound effects for the punches in the earlier Rocky movies.

He's wrong to be embarrassed by them.
Those films are larger than life. To have made those fights realistic would have taken something away and spoilt it.

Bellew's character is being sent off to prison. They're going to have to change that or have Adonis fight somebody else for the light heavyweight championship.

The fight in Rocky Balboa was ugly.
The end fight in Balboa was hands down the worst of the series. It was terrible to watch and really hurt the movie. Rocky fights arent meant to blend with realism. The problem with filming that was it wasnt done in a green room like the other ring fights were. It was filmed between fights during a Hopkins-Taylor PPV card. They only had 45 mins to film it all. It was rushed. And that's why it turned into the crap you saw.
