Who is the best lightweight in the world?

Good question. There isn't really a standout guy for me.

I think the winner of Linares-Zlaticanin will probably have the best argument, at least assuming that happens fairly soon (I thought it was set but apparently not).

I think so the winner of that fight is the best.

Terry Flanagan is the has best but he hasn't proved it yet, he will make short work of Derry Mathews in February then beat the winner of Linares-Zlaticanin in the summer.

I'd imagine a fight between Flanagan and Crolla is more likely next summer.

Crolla has been offered £500,000 to fight Flanagan but I don't think he will take it, more likely he will fight another camp Eddie Hearn fighter. Linares has recently said he wants to fight Flanagan.

I doubt Crolla can make that kind of money fighting anyone else, he would be a fool to turn it down unless he has a similar offer from elsewhere (which is highly unlikely).

But politics has scuppered much bigger and better fights in the past, I suppose it wouldn't be a massive surprise if this fight goes the same way.

I think it is linares but I would like to see him fight flanagan or the bathelegy-shafikov winner to confirm it.

He may not make that fighting anyone else, but collectively by defending a World championship belt a few times he will make more. If he takes a big pay day against Flanagan and loses, then he will never make World Champion money again.

Not much to choose between Linares and Flanagan, and maybe the Shafikov/Barthelemy winner depending on how that fight turns out.

Linares/Flanagan unification would be great.

I edge towards Linares at the moment but itsca division a handful of guys can rule with a couple of big wins.
Should be a exciting division over the next couple of years.

Wide open weight for me. I wouldn't dispute the winner of Zlaticanin v Linars being number 1.

I do think Rances Barthélemy will be very difficult to beat

No, people like you destroy the SPORT of boxing.

Violence obsessed idiots like you and HBO would prefer if boxing descends into a Roman coliseum.
Saying the SPORT is being destroyed is foolish when you want to eliminate 90% of the tactical aspects of the SPORT.

Soccer and hockey should be all shootouts.
Basketball should be a dunk contest.
Football should be all helmet to helmet hits and hail marys.

SPORT, in general, is being destroyed by people like you.

Has to be Linares or Flannagan at the moment. However late next year/early 2017 i really want to see Luke Cambell truly step up towards world titles. He could easily be the best lightweight in the world with the skills he has but has been held back with with his fathers health problems.
