This is a good fight of two true middleweights who are running so far from GGG that they ran into each other.

Jacobs knocked out Quillin on his feet in the 1st round.

I personally think the ref stepped in too soon but he was really shaken on his feet. Never knocked down just really wobbly legs.

reff jumped a bit early

That was an amateurish stoppage by an overactive ref who was trying too much to jump into the fight.

That referee has to learn how to referee a fight in a more relaxed fashion. I have seen him referee on many occasions. He is always way too involved and it is like he drank a pot of coffee before the fight. Bad stoppage.

At least give Quillin an 8 count
oh well , we will see them both again

Quillin started the round fine then Jacobs landed a shot that stunned Quillin, from that part other than a brief separation from the referee Jacobs threw many many punches rapidly to overwhelm Quillin.
At the stoppage Quillin was on very rubber legs and clearly stunned but on his feet nonetheless, some may say he deserved to continue.
Either way Jacobs will come out of it favourably.

The referee is not allowed to give a standing 8 count. So when he jumped in like he did he had no choice but to stop the fight.

Referee did a horrible job, letting Jacobs get away with a clean shot on the break which if warned would have given quillen a couple of more seconds, and then got overexcited and jumped in leaving himself with little choice but to stop it.

the thing is, quillin didn't go down and get up and hold up his gloves
like he is ready to go. that is not under the ref's control. the ref can only
deal with the situation at hand and quillin did not go down but could
barely stand up. if the ref said "box", quillin would have gotten hurt. he
was no longer able to protect himself.

No he does not he can easily dodge GGG and fight the Lee/Saunders winner. Jacobs is an American and American fighters don't like to fight anyone these days with the exception of a few. Jacobs won't fight GGG.

Ref did a poor job. Too anxious to make himself part of the fight. Harvey needs to learn to relax.

His eyes were bugging out of his head as he was doing the stanky leg. I don't have much trouble with the stoppage. Quillin was asking for it by not taking a knee. I said to my wife if he doesn't take a knee soon the ref is gonna step in. When you don't do that you give the ref an opportunity to make a judgement call.

Stoppage kind of premature, but not severely. Quillin might have came back, like Kirkland came back against Angulo. As we've seen in the past, temple shots make for spaghetti legs. But perhaps Quillin will be able to quickly rebound due to the lack of a brutal finish. Also, for anyone who didn't see the post-fight interviews, both of these fighters are pure class.

This. We see stoppages like this all the time where fighters don't take a knee or go down. What's the ref supposed to do? Watch a guy bouncing around the ring like a ping pong ball get knocked through the ropes?
