Glazkov should have taken the fight, but it looks like him & his people are much more interested in going after the IBF belt that Fury will undoubtedly give up in order to grant Klitschko his rematch. What a shame.
Say whatever you like about Wilder & his opposition, at least he's staying active & keeping busy until the Povetkin mandatory & bigger fights like it can be put together. Which will likely happen sometime early this next spring.
But, there's still his title defense on January 16th to deal with & the promoters better get busy & find Wilder a challenger. Someone that's been in the gym training & who's rated by the 'BC.
Maybe a Steve Cunningham?
Yeah, I know he recently gave notice that he plans on returning to the cruiserweight class, but somehow I doubt he'd turn down a shot at the heavyweight championship & the sort of purse that goes with it.
If not Cunnigham, then who?
Artur Szpilka's name has been mentioned. That would be a good fight as well. So, hopefully he's in shape should they go with him.
Barring those two gentlemen though, I have no clue who the opponent might be.
I suppose there's an outside chance that the winner of next week's undercard bout between Chris Arreola & Travis Kaufman could get a call, but only if said victor comes out of the contest relatively unscathed. Which would be asking quite a bit of two men who aren't known for their defensive skillsets. But, we'll see...
Of course, I'd MUCH rather see an opportunity to fight Wilder be granted to the victor of the other, more notable heavyweight bout taking place that night between the two unbeatens in Charles Martin & Dominic Breazeale. But, something tells me that Wilder's people will "save" that fight for sometime a bit farther down the line when their names are bigger, there's more demand for it & the monetary compensation for it will be bigger.
But, then again, who knows?
Maybe the powers that be will shock us & just go ahead & put the best opponent available in there for Wilder to deal with.

Just a thought but wouldn't Wlad be better served fighting Wilder, thus allowing Fury retain the IBF title with Glazkov. Then unifying every belt at a sold out Wembley Stadium with a huge build up in say half a year.

Wlad probably wants the rematch more than any one belt.

And I don't see Wlad risking a career ending defeat at the hands of Wilder just to do Huey's brother a favor.

Deontay is at least as much of a problem for him as Fury- moreso because of the one punch power.

He is dealing with legacy now not belts.

And legacy says rematch and beat the guy that beat you, show everyone it was a fluke.

It would be a joke of epic proportions were he to be chosen. What is he, maybe the fifth best heavyweight in Poland?

"Bronko" Billy? Hell, he might actually be an option were he just a decade younger. But, there's no way NYSAC allows a 50 something year old fight for a title.

I almost mentioned Fujimoto as a possibility in my post. The former K-1 star would certainly make headlines as the first Asian fighter to compete for a world heavyweight title.

Andy Ruiz would be perfect because he just had a fight scheduled for tonight vs Mike Grant scrapped for some reason, but I very seriously doubt whether Arum would allow him to take a PBC fight, especially since Haymon would want options. Too bad.

Instead, we'll likely see someone like a Fedosov or an Edmund Gerber instead. Maybe... a "Baby" Miller at best.

He should just fight Povetkin next.

Very maybe Anthony Joshua could do it, since he has fought more often with just a short period of time between his fights.
Every name I can think of is allready named here, or has been fought before.
Perhaps Mansour, or Andy Ruiz if he doesn't fight next week.

The glaring addition to the WBC top 15 is 6"1, 39yr old Adamek. He gets there after losing to Glazkov, Spilzka, and beating 177th ranked Saleta.
He's said no, but that was probably to the pitiful money he was being offered, because they thought they had Glazkov. Might say yes if Haymon gets desperate enough to offer a reasonable purse.
Would be a classic Wilder choice

I'm surprised they haven't looked at Andy Ruiz, it makes so much sense from both sides, and would hopefully drum up a bit of interest in the american market. Best possible fight available to both men right now.

I believe Ruiz is fighting Jennings next, and Joshua I know is fighting soon against Whyte, so why bother mentioning their names? Glazkov clearly just chickened out, and is taking the easy route....so that one is not on Wilder. I hope it is someone decent, but time is short so it has to be someone that stays in shape. Maybe Pulev could be ready since he just beat a guy with about a .500 record that lost 8 out of his 10 last fights.

He does actually have a brother who's boxing as well, called Young Fury, not sure if that's his real name or just his boxing name. It sounds like a bit of an odd name to me TBH.
Hughie Fury seems more impressive, but if you carefully look at his opponends it's similar like Wilder his first 16 fights, nothing special and not all of them are KOed.
Hughie is a smart boxer though, he's someone who achieves the maximum result with the limits of his body.

Hughie Fury probably doesn't want to fight Wilder, because Wilder wants to fight in America and several of Hughie's familymembers can't go to America without trouble. Hughie (as well as Tyson) don't want to fight without their family around, so they simply refuse to.

I also will not be surprised if Lucas Browne will be dropped because of a fight with Ruslan Chagaev for the regular WBA title.
So possibly 2 spots will be open.It has to be a top 15 fighter unless Wilder can get an exeption by the WBC.
Malik Scott and Steve Cunningham are 16th and 17th.

Cunningham is probably the choice.

I'd put money on Pianeta or Szpilka. I don't think there's much doubt, given the timeframe, that the WBC will green light anyone in the top 25/30. Maybe a rematch with Scott, or Wilder/Molina 2. The only certainty is that this is going to be embarrassing.
