Frankie lived a crazy life. I believe he was shot in the back in some casino over something. God only knows what he got into when he didn't have boxing. I think boxing lent a somewhat regimented lifestyle for Frankie, but after retiring, who knows what went on. Like Caractus mentioned about a Hollywood star managing him, he was taken over for a time by Robert Conrad. Conrad was a boxing fan and always put some boxing theme in his moives and TV shows, but as a manager or cornerman he was useless. I recall a big write-up on his fight with Dwight Hawkins. Hawkins was really tearing into Frankie and the writer of the article was musing on about how Frankie would return to the corner and Conrad would rinse his mouthpiece and rub Vaseline on him, but offered absolutely nothing verbally while Frankie was getting his arse handed to him. He should have stuck with Jackie McCoy who got him two title shots and was terribly unlucky not to win the crown in at least one of those fights. I recall also how Frankie hired a couple of goons to lean on Conrad for money he thought Conrad owed him. It was a crazy life Frankie had. But he could fight and I thought his draw with Chucho Alonso was a total robbery. One more thing, although I don't have anything to corroborate it, I don't believe he came back after 3 years and went down to Mexico to fight Jose Luis Ramirez. I believe that was someone else. I kept my ear to the ground back then and I heard nothing on that one and was amazed when I saw that on his record.

Interesting...
years ago I asked a question on CBZ about "the Possible" death of a Boxer that I heard hinted to a Mob Killing on of all things the Phil Donahue Show.
This particular show was doing a Spot on Mobster's Wives and towards the end, one quite rough kind of haggard mess of a woman said something to the effect " that the same thing could happen, that happened to a certain little Prizefighter!"
well I can't remember the response, but 'IF' I remember rightly Crawford's name was among the answers... I still don't know who that Woman was referring too. Any ideas? Might it have been Crawford?
anyway that particular show might be on YouTube or the internet somewhere.
