Joseph Parker now WBO #3 and ahead of Wlad

Unbeaten New Zealand heavyweight Joseph Parker has climbed two spots to be the third-ranked challenger in the World Boxing Organisation.

There was a ranking reshuffle following Briton Tyson Fury's defeat of long-time champion Wladimir Klitschko last month, with the Ukranian great now sitting a place below Parker.

The top-ranked challenger to Fury is American Charles Martin, followed by another unbeaten fighter, Briton Anthony Joshua.

Parker, 23, holds the Oriental and African belts in the division, having won all 17 fights of his professional career.

He cruised to a first-round knockout win over Daniel Martz in Hamilton last week and next fights another mid-ranked US opponent, Jason Bergman, in Apia in January.

Parker was ranked just outside the top-10 in two rival organisations last month, the WBC and WBA.

I think Parker should come over to the UK for his next fight and fight the loser of Joshua/Whyte, or Chisora. That would give him some much needed publicity. Think he would easily get past Whyte & Chisora.

I can't disagree with this, he's showing very very very good results, only AJ can compare himself with him.

As poor as Wlad looked, he should feel lucky being ranked in the top 50.

As poor as Vlad was made to look, he should feel lucky to be ranked at all. The only thing that performance can rationally be compared to is Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold day. Did you guys notice the birds were flying upside down in Germany that day? I did, and instantly I knew why. Because on that day, with Vladimir present and on the verge of laying a dinosaur size egg in the ring, that section of Dusseldorf wasn't even worth shitting on.

Poetic.

"I know a lot of people that watch my fights are frustrated that the fights end quickly but I can promise you this year we're definitely going to step up the opponents and it's going to be a lot more interesting fights. We're getting closer to that goal of being champion of the world and I think this year we can make some big noise around the world."

Parker said things have changed over the last year where the boxing world, including current heavyweight champions Tyson Fury, is starting to pay attention to the 23-year-old from South Auckland.

"A lot of the big boxing writers, the big boxing network channels, they're definitely taking notice of what we're doing. Tyson Fury, the heavyweight boxing champion of the world, messaged us before and after the fight wishing us luck. We're definitely keeping in touch with those big names.

"Before I looked at myself as a sparring partner for these big names but now we're looking at our team as contenders and we can contend for that title."

Parker told Veitch he's confident he could beat any other fighter in the world.

"I'm getting more confident in what I can do in the ring and that just comes with hard work and training. I believe it when I say I can beat anyone if I have a great training camp. I can beat Tyson Fury, [Wladimir] Klitschko, I can beat [Deontay] Wilder. I just need a great training camp and I know I can do the job."

Parker said the amount of support he has received from fans over the last 12 months has been humbling as his popularity continues to grow.

"When I first started off, a lot of people didn't know who we were or what we're doing but now you can see a big difference and everyone is behind us...it's amazing."

"Walking down the street it's a humbling feeling. Everyone stopping you for photos and autographs, it's real humbling. It's a weird feeling but I'm slowly getting used to it."

It's a feeling he better get used to. A successful world title fight in 2016 and he'll have a lot more photos and autograph requests.

Colonel Bob Sheridan says Parker and Joshua will rule the heavyweight division

Colonel Bob Sheridan says the heavyweight division will become attractive again with unbeaten fighters Joseph Parker (17-0, 15 KOs) and Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) becoming better known in America.

“Joseph Parker in New Zealand and Anthony Joshua in England can make the heavyweight division attractive again but people in the United States don’t know Joshua except for people inside boxing and they don’t know Parker, but they will in the next year or so and there will be a lot more interest in the heavyweight division when these guys move into high gear. They will rule the heavyweight division.”

Fr@nk W@rren and B0xNati0n should make a play for Parker to promote some fights for him over in the UK. Expand his name and open him up to another market.
Sexton, Towers, Whyte, H.Fury, Price and Chisora.
Plenty of available names to match him up with on his shows...
