Omori is a heavy handed lengthy southpaw.


Tapales is a high paced southpaw stalker warrior who could argue having not loss a fight in the last 5 years... His only loss was in Mx, by MD vs David Sanchez in what was a spectacular barn burner. He has good power punch combo fluidity that grinds his opponent... He can mix the uppercuts, body work and leaping left hooks pretty easily while walking down his opponents. Also has a good counter right hook




VERY intriguing matchup. IMO since Omori has the reach and imo the more credible opposition... add the pop that remains efficient as the opposition gets tougher... He should be able to impose himself and win this one.

Exciting and rare match between two legitimate top contenders!

Hard to pick against Omori at home, but I think Tapales has the edge.

Tapales just over 116 raises an eyebrow. Omori is huge for a bantamweight:

Gotta go with Omori. Stronger, naturally much bigger, more powerful and has REALLY looked destructive recently. Rather like the "Yamanaka II" tag that some have given him.

I hear you. Still, Omori's defense isn't quite up there with his power and size advantages.

And skill-wise, I favor Tapales. He looks to be in good condition -- not sure why he came in so low under the limit...

I fancied Omori big for this.

Surprised how some really good Japanese fighters have been blown away a lot easier than I expected this year.

Unbeaten Japanese fighters always have a halo of arrogance which is usually a good thing.
But with there aggressive matchmaking it's always a risk.

Tapales now looks a really good fighter. I feel quite bad I completly misread this one.

I really rated Omori highly.

I really rated Omori highly.

As for the matchmaking, in this case there wasn't much choice as Tapales was the #2 contender (Omori was #1).

I'd still rate Omori highly. Probably should move up to super bantam though.

Omori's become wilder and wilder. He looked...relatively intelligent against Esquivel then started getting gung-ho, think he perhaps fell in love with his power after what it did to Masuda (which was impressive as hell!) As mentioned a move up in weight seems smart, and domestic bouts with Oguni, Wake, Ishimoto, Kuga, Baat would all be interesting
