Harris-Hatton negotiations!
Main Events has begun negotiations with Ricky Hatton’s people about a Harris-Hatton bout. "I have authorized Main Events to make a very reasonable offer to Ricky Hatton to encourage him and his people to sign for this showdown that boxing fans are eager to see," said Harris in a statement. "The ball is now in Hatton’s court. I’m offering him a shot at my belt. Let’s go, Ricky."

I'd love to see Hatton in this fight, with allegedly under pressure for big fights for Hatton, could this be the one to really take Ricky into the world elite.

Harris went to Germany, so why not Manchester. You always get the feeling when a fight like this is offered, it will never happen. I'll believe it when they are both in the ring, if ever. But if I where Hatton, Id be gunning for this shot for the WBA title.

Any thoughts? :TU:

ricky has to put his foot down here and demand its vivian harris  spadafora is decent but carries no real reward. hatton is at the stage where he needs top 5 opponents not just top 10 fodder. :TU:

Would love to see it happen, but somehow I doubt it. Harris looked a bit too good in his win over Urkal.

You think so Bennie, I thought he was very poor - well perhaps very poor is harsh. He certainly wasn't as good as Urkal that night. He's undoubtedly a solid, world class fighter, but easily the weakest champion.

I would tip Hatton, 8 times out of 10.

The champion is approaching the challenger for fucks sake. FW CANNOT let this opportunity pass them by. He will never get a better chance to get Ricky to fight for a legitimate world title. Ricky has got to put pressure on Frank too make this fight at all costs. He doesn't take this opportunity now then Cotto will get it after his next fight, he has the chance to beat him to the title which is essential.

Harris's people should start calling Ricky out on as many websites as possible and make their most reasonable demands public. Harris has no-where to go until Cotto gets the chance, they cannot let this chance just go by!!!

Someone should contact Ricky and tell him about all this if he doesn't know. If he's the man we hope he is he would then would really get on Franks case to make the fight and not take no for an answer. Ricky could really regain a lot of lost credibility if he took this fight next.

He should have done years ago, but the wbu is safer than the ebu of course. Really there's no certainty that he could beat Urkal

I really doubt Warren will let this happen. If Hatton wins couldnt Cotto then become his mandatory?

Notice on ringside last night that Warren saidright now he could definately deliver either Harris or Spaddy? Meaning that when it's Spad that he can't deny taking the safer, lower reward option.
Speaking of Ringside last night; wasn't that a fornicating joke? They introduced the show as if they were going to put the whole issue under the spotlight and then the only point anyone made was how frustrating it is for promoters when big fights fall through. Warren was going on about having difficulty booking the M.E.N on the date he wanted and nobody asked the obvious "why don't you send Ricky to America then?"

i dunno if it comes off I reckon kudos to him.

He publicly stated that he can make two fights 100%. Sky setting a date for the 9th..well if sky gave a shit maybe they would change their date to 2nd? I mean what else would rival that for a fight night ratings winner?

Nothing.

Other option is if the MEN is not availalbe if not why not do it at Man City's new ground? That would be feckin awesome. If it was Harris and WBA title they would sell it out too.

He made a lot of promises last night lets hope they come into fruition.

But I thought he came accross quite well. Cant blame Frank for absolutely everything here SKY should show some flexibility also so there are no exuses.

Dodgy scoring the other way if you ask me (like no way was Ottke vs Mitchell a split decision - it does happen0. Urkal didn't win by the margin Holdsworth said - but I cannot fathom how Harries won. I didn't say Urkal (anywhere) wouldn't be a tough assignment, but I think Urkal should be the WBA champion now.

Hatton needs Harris now, but ill believe it when i see it. I hope its at the MEN i dont know how to get to MAine Road

I really hope Hatton gets a crack at Harris and his WBA belt, if only for the fact that if he wins then he would have to defend against some half decent mandatories. The lightwelterweight division is on fire and there are some potential big $$$$ in the USA for Ricky especially if he takes a major title with him. I would really love to see Hatton vs Cotto as a future unification bout and a scrap with Gatti wouldnt be to bad either.

He needs to forget about the lightweight Spadafora and get in with the top guys before its to late.

allegedly has made some good matches in the past.

Here is an opportunity for another one. I reckon Harris would come to the MEN for a million. A million dollars that is. It's a big psychological barrier and for Brits it's only £600,000.

Why not? Let's get it on! :TU:

Hatton vs Harris at the MEN, with Skelton vs Harrison on the undercard = SKY BOX OFFICE £ 14.95

It doesn't matter...any Tyson fight is PPV these days.

Hatton won't be on the card because he can fund his own.

Hatton should only be fighting Cotto, Mitchell, Harris, Tszyu, or Mayweather. Anyone else is pointless.

OK. Cotto - I doubt if either fancy it. Mitchell - definite possibilities..when Sharmba is shot. Harris - that's the one. Tszyu - gone. Mayweather - erm, no.

Why would Cotto not fancy it?

He's far better skills wise than Ricky.

Posted: 09 Jul 2004, 19:26

I just think that he wouldn't fancy coming into a protected British fighter's backyard. Has nothing to do with skills - now that would be a good match up! Why come over here for a WBU belt? He can get easier match ups for better belts.

This must happen Hatton is ready now no more excuse,no milking the money cow in England it is time for Hatton to make his name with the big boys and fight Harrison who is world class and not washed up or a blown up 135 fighter he is a ture world champion,if Hatton doesn't get this fight it is time for him to give Warren the flick and go with a big USA promoter to make the fights for him to become a true super star of the sport.
