Facts he has knockout four former world heavyweight champions by the names of Michael Moorer,Hasim Rahman,John Ruiz and Oleg Maskaev.Tua also held several minor titles the WBC intercontinental title,NABF title,WBO oriental title,USBA title,& WBO asia pacific title. In his prime he was among the best in world,he just lack to win major world titles against good opposition, but Tua did do enough to class himself as a all time great in the heavyweight division. No Tua is most certainly not an all time great Heavyweight. I'm a big fan of Tua, and I liked him, but he's most definitely not an ATG Heavyweight or even close to it.

He was a noteworthy contender who was fun to watch at his best, had devastating power in his left hook, and a helluva chin. He'll be fondly remembered by a lot of people, but nobody that's not kidding themselves would consider him an ATG

Michael Moorer was well past his best when Tua took him out, though he did do it in impressive fashion dispatching him in 30 seconds. I never caught the first Tua-Rahman fight, but I know I had Rahman winning the rematch in spite of being badly overweight. The win over Maskaev is a good one. The win over John Ruiz is a good one, and is damn enjoyable to watch knowing how god awful boring Ruiz was.

He certainly has one of the best resumes in heavyweight history.... however.... the facts remain that in his lone title shot he failed miserably and lost every round. Maybe he was just too short to take on Lennox Lewis, etc. but he certainly isn't the best of the era among contenders, despite who he beat at different times.

Tua was note worthy of a contender,Tua knockout former champions & fought champions as well.He never lost big on the scoreboards either until his last fight, when Tua fought Chris Byrd for the IBF elimantor he only lost two or three rounds by decision even hurting Byrd in the last round.Tua knockout Hasim Rahman when he was undeafted & Tua knockout Fres Oquendo when he was undeafted for the nabf title.Tua also didn't lose big on the scoreboards when he fought Ike Ibeabuchi either,Harold Lederman scored the fight 115-113.Tua was note worthy of a contender is a false statement an your not giving the man the credit he deserves,in my book Tua is a all time greats in the heavyweight division.

Does anyone know anything about Ike Ibeabuchi ?

He never lost a single match, neither against David Tua and neither against Chris Byrd, somehow I've never heard of this guy.

This thread reminds of when I told my friend that John Ruiz was the greatest heavy weight champion of all time just to troll him.

He is pending release and deportation. At 41 it is not inconceivable that he gets back in the ring, but probably not at the level he looked like he was capable of before he went nuts. In all likelihood he will get sent back to Nigeria and into more legal trouble.

Perhaps Tua had the potential to be an ATG, but he certainly didn't have a career deserving of that kind of accolade. Unfortunately he struggled with his weight, which clearly affected his performances - he was best at around 225lb, but was inexplicably 20lb north of that in the biggest fight of his career when he faced Lennox Lewis. A fitter, faster Tua would have had a better chance of landing the knockout punch on Lewis, but odds are, he would have been outboxed whatever shape he came in.

He was no master boxer, but he did possess a devastating left hook and an iron jaw. His knockout of Ruiz is very impressive, especially when you consider that Ruiz went on to have a very good career.

Well before the fight Rahman said he wanted to come in heavier because he felt he could absorb the punches better. Look at the punch stats. He may have been the heaviest of his career but he averaged 75-80 punches a round thru 12 rounds. The weight did not hurt him in anyway for that fight. He also was able to absorb some big punches. Tua is not an ATG but he was a solid fighter. The Chris Byrd loss was one that really stung because many guys were not lining up to fight Tua by that time. Look what he did to Maskaev & Ruiz. You didn't see them stepping up to defend against him in a voluntary defence. His only shot was via mandatory ranking. The Byrd fight allowed guys to avoid him. The 2nd Rahman fight didn't do him any favours either. The final nail in the coffin was when he held the WBO Asian pacific & oriental titles a few years ago. His promoter had a lined up title shot against Vitali Klitschko but Tua demanded the Barrett rematch against his promoter's wishes. The rest is history & so was Tua's career...
