Robert Helenius 21 0 0
vs
Franz Rill 11 0 0
Heavyweight
vacant EBU (European) heavyweight title
vacant IBF International heavyweight title
Helenius won by Decision
Rill down once in round 1 & 4
Rill started aggressive but right away Helenius floored him wiht a counter. Helenius seemed to either want to go rounds or didn't want to waste stamina because he went on to stalk Rill slowly and trying to land straights ot the head and body and lead hand hooks to the head... Rill had good moments where he hit Helenius (who stalks hands down... very timeable and open for counters) flush with jabs, straights and counters... Helenius showed he could stalk for 12 at moderate pace and take plenty of flush shots... the chin is still there.

Nice!
I was just waiting for the battle when they take turns punching each other in the stomach.

Maybe that was part of Rill's strategy: make him think he's punching himself!

That would have the logical progression wouldn't it?
Must say that melon punching was impressive.

Hard to tell, but in that little clip it looked like he clubbed him with his forearm. Rill was looking great on the inside. I like the way he was winging that right. I hope that both of them go far. As for the "mini me" comment, I see what you mean but Rill weighed only seven pounds less than H.

I guess "mini-me" is an exaggeration. Shorter double?

This time I was there on location to watch the fight. The main fight was kinda entertaining but because of the hype I was kinda also expecting a knockout. Rill was knocked down in the 1st and 4th but in both cases it wasn't quite complete or followed through and Rill got back to steal at least one round from Helenius. Rill didn't receive much damage from either knock down, the punches hardly seemed to land, and the knockdowns weren't that big a deal. Still in the last few rounds Rill looked more tired than Helenius. I think the referee did warn Helenius in the first round for following Rill when he was already down..
Anyways, to me, Helenius somehow seemed to be holding back, or just didn't seem to execute it to perfection, but still won almost every round on the score cards. However, Helenius actually did comment that he was trying to go for that one big punch and added that maybe that was the wrong strategy. Still it seemed like he was holding back somehow. He did land few punches, few, but also received a few surprising throws that Rill managed to perform. It wasn't quite the Helenius I'm used to seeing, holding the opponent back with jabs. That just didn't happen that much.
However, besides the main fight, the highlights of yesterday evening were this one Cuban/Finnish guy entering the arena as a santa claus, handing out gifts and all, and then toying with his opponent, who didn't punch much at all, while still wearing red and white trunks, and Juho Haapoja for scoring a spectacular single-punch left-handed knockout against a taller opponent.
