Damn shame that Ortiz is nearly 40 and has opted to go down the WBA road to nowhere. With champions allowed to milk their belts with numerous easy defences, Ortiz will probably be past it by the time the clamour for someone to face him has grown deafening.

Well, he'll turn 37 in March, and I will be very surprised if he has boxed between now and then. And with the glacial pace at which the contemporary heavyweight title picture moves he will likely be 40 by the time he features in a major fight. That's if time and/or gluttony hasn't bumped him off already. That being said, I like his style and want him to do well. The WBA sub-bauble and the drugs scandal are a turn off.

WBA #2 now isnt he. At 36 he would have to be moved at supersonic speed in any weight division except Heavyweight. Klitchko was 40, Chagaev 38ish?

I enjoyed his performance sat, reminded me of the 80s and 90s. Impressive amateur record too, around 395-15

I can't wait for the white middle class liberal outrage when Ortiz gets a bit more fame or fights a UK fighter and starts calling himself "King Kong" and beating his chest on the ringside

I really hope Ortiz gets a high profile fight next year. He has a touch of Riddick Bowe about him.

Is it just me, or are heavyweights in general a lot older now? Compared to the 70's,80's and 90's, I think they are.

In the 70's the heavyweights had more competitive/gruelling fights.Even Quarry would have lasted longer if he'd had only 2 fights a year.

Ortiz was very impressive and looks to be one of the most complete HWs today. He's got power, a wide punch selection, can fight inside or out, mixes countershots well with front-foot aggression, and has HW size. His chin hasn't been tested much and Jennings outhustled him at times, but overall a top-notch showing from King Kong.

Shame that he didn't get this type of fight until nearly 37.

Ortiz will fail another drugs test surely he's an absolute beast.
