Who's your BOXER of the year?

Post by caldo2025 »

ESPN's FOY was Canelo, PBC's was Thurman and TFG was GGG which tells you all you need to know about segregation of Boxing and various alliances marring the sport. So these selections are hardly impartial.

Who is your boxer of the year and why?

Come on with the Tyson Fury comedy. Let's hear it for the real fighter of the year candidates already.

I have to agree with ESPN and give it to Canelo with GGG in a close second.

Canelo was favourite to beat Cotto and a massive favourite over Kirkland. Fury deposed the long reigning champion as a massive underdog.

Ok, that did it....officially puked on myself. Some Brit with an extra chromosome wins a slap fight against a 40 year old robot and it's the biggest win in the history of the world. Let's blame this nonsense on the leftover eggnog. Get off the sauce boys.

Said in Harold Letterman's voice, "Jim, I have it all Tyson Fury going away. He beat the man so therefore he is the Man."

Gennady Golovkin was fighter of the year.

1.Activity: He was one of the most active world champions fighting 3 times in 2015 (Canelo, Floyd and Fury fought twice). So being more active gives him an edge in this category

2.Domination: He dominated all 3 of his opponents with ease, displaying great boxing skills and punching power (Yet again)

3.Knockouts: He knocked out all of his 3 opponents, battered them in every single round, who else did that this year? (Kovalev? He fought just twice only credible win this year = Pascal)

4.Opponents: Non of them were Elite but all of them Were among TOP5 (Murray,Lemieux) and Top15 (Monroe) So not elite opponents but GOOD enough for this year (Because nobody else stood out like last year, Crawford-Kovalev)

Close 2nd is Floyd Mayweather for defeating Manny Pacquiao.

I swear, you crazy Brits won't be happy until you give me a heart attack. If one more Brit wins a world title then I'm going to stick my thumb in my ass and watch soccer.

I'm not a fan, but Tyson Fury is boxer of the year.

He had the most historically significant win of 2015.

I fail to see why anyone would pick Canelo. He beat Kirkland, who has been beaten easier under the same conditions already and he beat Cotto, which holds name value but isn't impressive as Cotto was also dominated by Austin Trout.

I like the Canelo pick because no one's stock went higher in 2015. Canelo moved himself into Elite status and the #1 Boxing draw in the sport this year. I'll agree that Canelo was a little lucky that Kirkland opted for a new trainer and wasn't the animal Wolf had created that night but that's not his fault. Canelo signed on to fight a guy that most fighters went out of their way to avoid and dismantled him easily and spectacularly. Then grabbing the Middleweight Belt on top of that, he had quite the year.

I think that you have to give this award to the boxer that made the largest leap during the year and taking over for Floyd as the top PPV star in the sport can only go to one person in my opinion...Canelo. As much as I'd love to give it to GGG.

What do you prefer?

3 solid wins from GGG, Gonzalez, Jacobs
2 good wins from Canelo, Thurman
1 great win from Fury

I go with Fury for the sheer historical magnitude of that one win.

It was a huge win and great karaoke performance but let's call it what it was, a debacle of a fight to watch. It was a shame to raise either of their hands at the end. GREAT win, don't get me wrong. Historically, it will look super in the history books but Fury's lucky enough to be able to call himself the Heavyweight Champion of the World, he's got enough hardware for that mess.

By the way, while you filthy Brits are beating on me today, I have a question. I have to admit that I absolutely loved the guys that called the Lee/Saunders fight. Who were those announcers, does anyone know? The two of them were spectacular and I was wondering if those announcers were like Lampley and Bernstein are to Americans. I'd love to hear them call another fight.
