Former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. has denied reports of being in financial jeopardy

According to some of the reports going around, Jones is facing a significant tax bill from the Internal Revenue Service [IRS] in the United States. Jones became a Russian citizen in September.

According to reports, Jones owes $3.5 million dollars to the IRS.

The 46-year-old boxer has continued to fight despite most fans and insiders calling for his retirement. He was brutally knocked out earlier this month, in four rounds, by former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli in the main event of card held in Moscow.

"I don't have any financial problems. We've already taken care of that. The other day I opened up a boxing school [in Russia], and we plan open a number of these types of gyms," Jones said.

A Russian rep for Jones stated: "The situation with Roy's debts have been settled. The strip of financial failures that haunted the athlete have ended. Roy received an offer to participate in a number of projects. These are sports, social and TV projects."

... I guess that partially explains why he was looking for a "safe haven" elsewhere...

I sincerely hope he now retires and concentrates on them boxing schools he mentioned, he can offer so much insight and advice to young fighters. As oppose to continuing to fight and risking his long term health when he doesn't have anything left to prove.

Do the IRS ever collect money when it's earned or do they just lie in wait to seriously mess people about. They sound like a**holes quite frankly.

And some people actually thought he went to Russia because "it's a great country".

Geez, 1) always have money aside for taxes and 2) if you're over 40 and have been brutally knocked out more than once- Retire.

Not really rocket science folks.

RJJ seems fairly bright but apparently lacks common sense.

Roy Jones' PEDS went to his head so much all these years he can't admit what's in plain sight for everybody with 2 brain cells.

The more this tragi-comedy continues, the more people will begin reconsider his real place in this sport's history.
