Chocolatito's Kryptonite

Some have alluded to this already so forgive me if I'm beating a dead horse. Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez is my favorite fighter and someone whose fights I used to watch on YouTube prior to him becoming a household name stateside. He is an extremely well schooled and well balanced fighter with few weaknesses. Having said that I dread the day he ever steps into the ring with Naoya Inuoe, especially at super flyweight or above. I believe that Inoue would embarrass and stop the great Chocalito. Inoue would be too quick, too strong, too powerful, too explosive and too big for Roman to contend with. Roman is a pressure boxer who utilizes his tremendous conditioning and pinpoint accuracy to outwork and overwhelm his opponent. Naoya is a taller, longer more athletic fighter with true one-punch knockout power. He also has a longer reach, quicker hands and feet and is my opinion is more of a 'natural' fighter. All of this spells disaster for Chocolatito if they were to meet in the ring. I invite your thoughts on this matchup.

There isn't a makeable fight that i'd be more excited about right now.

Chocolatito is the complete package: offense PLUS defense.

It takes more than a good offense to make a great fighter.

I don't see any regard for defense in Inuoe's game.

A fight I really want to see.

I hope both guys have a long successful career but we shouldn't worry about a loss for either in this fight.

Not wanting to see your favourite fighter in with someone who will test him to his limits, because he might lose isn't the way fans should be looking at this.

There would be no shame in either man losing to the other. Lets just get them in the ring

Well now I have spend my day brushing up on this guy Inoue. I'm lightweight illiterate and will be the first to admit it so I like to hear the excitement surrounding weight classes I'm unfamiliar with and need to brush up on. Keep em coming. Great post.

Brutal puncher with natural relaxed ring skills, mate. If you like golovkin, well.....

I absolutely agree that Chocolatito is the complete package and a great fighter. However Inoue's size, speed, athleticism and explosive power would be too much for the smaller Gonzalez to deal with. To put this in perspective Floyd Mayweather who was my favorite fighter, prior to retiring, would be KOed by GGG if they met at 154 or above. Golovkin would too big and strong and sufficiently skilled to get to Floyd and hurt him badly!

I'm betting the house on 'Monster' Inoue if this fight gets made in the next year or two. IMO 115 lbs is one division too far for Chocolatito. He should return to flyweight if he wants to get to 50-0.

What a great comment. Floyd is the reason why boxers today want to hold onto that zero in the loss column at all costs and not risk it. Back in the day, boxers didn't care if they had a loss or two. All they cared about was fighting the best.

You're absolutely right. There's NO SHAME for any boxer that gets in the ring with the best and loses. Hopefully, more boxers will start to feel this. Brook showed us that a loss can bring more attention and future earnings. He's going to cash in next year.

Great comments though.

Don't worry, there's plenty more where that came from

Chocolatito's mandatory challenger, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, might well be his kryptonite. The guy is a HUGE Super Flyweight, massive power and would probably be the first fighter capable of forcing Gonzalez back as and when he wants.

Bad example. Gonzalez is nowhere near Floyd's league.
A guy like Cuadras would never look that good against Floyd (or Ward or Rigo).

Chocolatito is a great exciting fighter.
He is very beatable, and despite HBO's insistence to the contrary, his reign is similar to that of Wlad.

When you are an undefeated champ for 8 years and not one p4p opponent is on your resume, you era was probably weak.

Roman is going to get KO'ed badly by a boxer. Typical modern HBO. Star making!!!!

I actually think Gonzalez has a good chance with Inoue, I think the movement of Caudras is what caused him so much trouble. Inoue is gunna stay in the pocket more so it will a shoot out and whoever forces the other back more will win.

Gonzalez has been in there with the better comp I do think 115 is a division to high for him and I think Caudras beats him in a rematch but inoue style although very dangerous coz his power, speed and ability to go the body, his lack of fights at the top level will let him down. If this fight happens next I got Gonzalez UD if it happens few fights from now I got Inoue TKO.

Well, as we saw against Cuadras, he needs to work on his defense, especially as he goes to higher weight classes. He can't absorb too many power punches against the bigger guys like he could at minimum.
