What is it? Total disrespect to Pascal and/or overestimating his own abilities? Or he was training with somebody else?

I follow him on twitter, and he's been saying he's been in the gym all December.

Still, he's just been working out by himself, no sparring or training.
He shouldn't underestimate Pascal, who will have home advantage for the rematch.

So he gets only two weeks of sparring unless he trained with somebody else.

Earlier this week could be Monday or Sunday depending on your definition of the first day of the week, so perhaps 3 weeks of sparring and 4 weeks with his head coach. Still seems a very strange decision.

Kovalev will beat Pascal anyway. Pascal isn't a puncher. He stopped just 1 (one!!!) guy since September 2009. He also can't outbox Kovalev, because Kovalev is better boxer and has much, much better workrate. I think Kovalev will KO him inside 3 rounds this time. But such approach to preparation can hurt Kovalev when he will face more dangerous opponents - Ward, Stevenson, Beterbiev.

Kovalev had a bad camp, tons of distractions, and wasn't quite his sharpest the first time around. Still ended in destruction. Now Pascal has slipped a bit. This ending will be even worse than the last. Pascal has zero chance.

Kovalev needs about one week against a heavy bag to prepare for Pascal. Total squash match.

I don't agree.
Pascal is no pushover, Kovalev needs to take him seriously and prepare properly for the rematch.

I have to agree with some of you on this one. This is a horrible sign and pretty disappointing to see with so much on the line for not only He and Ward but for the fans. But honestly, I hedged my excitement when I heard the plans to have bridge fights for both men prior to them getting in the ring together. Not just because one of them could lose but I also don't have a lot of faith in Ward showing up on fight night. No faith at all.
But this is worse than I imagined. I never thought that Kovalev would be so unprofessional and look past such a tough fighter. Pascal can throw and he has a huge heart. No one should ever get in with him without putting in the proper amount of gym work. I don't care who we are talking about.
I have a horrible feeling about this one.

JDJ isn't much of a trainer. Kovalev is going to have to tighten up some things if he expects to beat Ward.

He does look like he was drinking during the Russian holidays:

Lol... Surely enjoyed some drinking but his philosophy is balance. I believe he began training in November since he's had an abnormally long layoff for his standard.

Knows enough to teach Hopkins, but yeah, not much of trainer... Maybe Sergey should tighten up on his wallet, as Dre looks for an out.

It'd be foolish to believe Andre S.O.G. Ward is afraid of anyone. Shrewd or arrogant maybe, disappointing yeah. He's already done, in less fights, more than what Kovalev has done. Cleaned out his division (a division with better fighters than kovalevs current division) and dominated the guy ranked #1 at the weight above him. Ward vs. Kovalev will happen, and it won't go how some you think it will.

You are talking about a person Ward was 4 years ago. He may have some emotional issues now.

Hopkins was supposed to school Kovalev too. But you know how that turned out...

That's true, he could. But he's proven his mettle enough for me to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Sure, we shall see in a few months.

I think we'll see when he faces Kovalev, that's the true test. He presents the biggest challenge, nobody else
