Won't be a bad fight. Their first fight was entertaining while it lasted and Herman ran out of puff. He has since boxed 8 rounds. I think it's a good even match up which is what we want to see.

I watched Gallen spar Peter Graham on the Browne benefit card and although Graham was obviously holding back, Gallen looked much more accomplished than he has in his preceding four pro fights.

Gallen is very limited. But part of the reason for that is he's never been able to put in the ring training time due to his rugby injuries.

2016 should be Gallen's last season in the NRL but he will be too old and inexperienced to make it a go out of a boxing career apart from these novelty fights. Yet he is putting it out there for a big money fight (battle of the football codes, but SBW may be back in the same code) against Sonny Bill Williams down the track, who has better things on his mind at the moment.

This fight against Purcell is only a five rounder and proves nothing, and then Gallen will return to NRL training and the upcoming season.

And Herman has improved as well. Had about 10 pros and lost on points over 8 for the Qld Heavyweight Title. Gallen might win but it's a pretty good match up.

It will be interesting. I think they have both improved quite a bit since they last met.

After reading this latest piffle below about Gallen's ambition to touch gloves with Sonny-Bill Williams and rake in the dollars before retiring, one hopes that Herman does the right thing and gets Gallen to take an earlier than expected retirement:

There seems to be a certain inevitability about Gallen vs SBW now.

It was a cracker of a fight. Herman tried hard but Gallen always had the whip in hand. Gallen can fight no doubts about that. For a part time boxer he is definitely pretty handy. Sure he won't go on to win world titles but I've no doubts he can win an Aussie Title. That would be quite an achievement.

No. But de Mori has fought worse opponents.
