So why do we praise a guy like McGregor for his arrogance but knock Floyd for it? I feel it's because McGregor's fights are the most exciting events in combat sports right now while Floyd's fights have repeatedly disappointed fans for years. McGregor wants to put his opponent in the ground while Floyd would rather get his hand raised without mixing it up. IMO, race has nothing to do with it. It's about delivering on a performance and promises. One guy keeps doing it and the other never really did.

What's your take?

Both talk a lot of poo, McGregor backs his up a lot more than Mayweather, at least in terms of his fights providing the excitement to match his boasts. His last performance, against a guy widely touted by many as the #1 P4P fighter in the sport, couldn't have been more brutally emphatic.

He's also spot on regarding the history of the Irish, however, I'd say he's talking shite when he says they are still oppressed as such. Northern Ireland's problems are now little to do with anyone except those in Northern Ireland by and large.

Floyd came from a family of professional boxers who clearly paved the road for Floyd. Conor paved his own way and the odds were heavily stacked against him. I don't know, I just find it insulting and ridiculous that the highest paid athlete in sports can complain about inequality.

I think Floyd has a huge chip on his shoulder, he's played the heel and the asshole for most of his career, and wonders why people treat him like the bad guy, he's earned more than any other fighter in history (probably even accounting for inflation he's probably out-earned Tyson by now), but he can't handle the fact that people call him boring.

Floyd wants everything his own way, but sadly for him, all the money in the world cannot buy you adulation.

Why would they be desperate exactly? Boxing has been around in it's present form for well over a century, and as such has had a very long time to establish itself.

UFC by comparison Is relatively young at what, two decades old, and are doing very well, becoming more and more mainstream with each passing year. McGregor is a humungous star, and is crossing over from UFC into being a household name - something Mayweather never really achieved until his last few fights.

I'm never really quite sure why boxing fans are so against UFC, to my mind, if anything it raises the profile of all combat sports, including boxing.

As far as I can see, it was Mayweather who had the first dig anyway, so who is desperate? If anything it's Mayweather who is desperate to stay relevant now he's announced his retirement, and his last fight was an absolute dud of colossal importance. It's Mayweather trying to play the race card as an explanation for why McGregor is so well liked and admired, rather than admitting to himself that McGregor's contests are a lot more fun to watch, and that is why people love to watch him fight.

McGregor has about 2m. He'll lose sometime in the near future and be forgotten about. He and the UFC need as much publicity as they can get right now and using Floyd's name is a sure way to stay in the media.

if an mma fighter wins a happy meal it's a record. you got these fighters in that sport
built up as the greatest ever after as little as 5 fights total sometimes, including amateur.
the real veterans fight for years as semi-pros working odd jobs while fighting for peanuts
on these low level events, then if they make it to the pinnacle of the sport, the most popular
dude in the ufc, they maybe can become millionaires for a year or two, then the ufc is building
