allegedly in his recent interview with IFL that they have an offer on the table from Team Canelo to fight Liam Smith. I like the fight but it does look like Canelo still feels he's a player in the 154 division and will use this as an excuse not to move to middleweight and make the fight all the fans want to see against Golovkin.
How do people see the fight against Liam Smith playing out anyway against Canelo. I feel it would be slugfest with Canelo stopping Smith in the mid-late rounds with the better overall boxing ability and better defense.

I don't think it would be a slugfest as Canelo isnt really a brawler but his superior boxing brain would probably result in a mid to late round stoppage like you say.

Probably Canelo is not ready to go to 160. This way he can win WBO 154 belt and chuck WBC 160. Then get himself involved in so called WBC championship for 154 belt.

He's beyond ready, he'd be better at 60.

This has got catchweight all over it.

Can't see Smith giving up his lmw title and can't see Canelo going to 154.

If it did happen I fancy Canelo around the 4th.

Why would Canelo choose Liam Smith from all the people he could fight if not for his title.

Because on paper he's still a champion yet of all the champions at lmw and mw he's probably the weakest.

So he beats him and takes his title. Not as if they dont let him fight for it at 155.

I agree. I could see a catchweight of 156-157 but can't workout team Canelo's reasoning behind this fight as to what title this would be for. Smith is also hardly known in the US and this would not attract the viewers over there to tune in even with Canelo being a superstar name.

Not really a fight to get ready for Golvokin though is the bottom line.

Maybe Frank just likes making stories up...remember Inoue vacating.

Saw a frank interview saying he knows Inoue is nowhere near weight and he's in the process of making Conlan-Butler a title fight.
I tell everyone about said interview, then Inoue makes weight comfortable.

Never trust Frank...he knows we're all now talking about Liam Smith and Smith has a raised profile. Cleverly was linked to everyone one note when he was the WBO champion (Hopkins, Froch, Shumenov, Cloud) yet ended up facing nobody's until Kovalev smashed him.

Take these stories with a pinch of salt, in recent months Smith's name has been mentioned in conjunction with Lara, Moro, Mosley, Trout and others but he ended up fighting Thompson and Kelly.
