This should be excellent - perhaps it might help secure a longer contract with the BBC.
Very positive step from David Haye. Shows he wants to follow up from the Arthur Williams fight.

David Haye, the British cruiserweight sensation is very close to securing the biggest fight of his short pro career, taking on Carl Thompson.
After only 10 bouts, it looks likely Haye will face a genuine top 10 opponent for the first time.
'The Cat' Thompson is the current IBO Cruiserweight champion, and shocked the division with a stunning KO victory against previous champ, Sebastian Rothman. Carl is now faced with the decision as to whether to have a rematch with Rothman or take on hot-shot Haye.
It seems a 'no brainer'. Carl was being dominated for much of the Rothman clash (that took place earlier this year), and was fortunate that his one punch KO power came to the rescue just as the referee was thinking about stopping the fight in favour of the South African.
Thompson may see Haye as being inexperienced, and there's also the small matter of money...Thomspon would make considerably more against Haye in a fight the BBC and the rest of British Boxing are very keen on. Rothman is in a win-win situation, as he would await the winner of Haye-Thompson if that's the fight that materialises.
This almost certainly explosive clash is set to take place on September 10th, at a London venue yet to be announced.

no i can say 100% that this fight is on david will smash him inside 4 rounds the guy just hits to hard ,and i know what ur all going to say ye his chin is suspect but its not the only time hes been down was against that african guy and 90%of people would have gone down from a shot like that but david took it well and came back better for it the shot seemed to me to wake him up.haye ko round 4.

IMO this fight is too soon for Haye, he would be taking a risk that he doesn't need too early in his career. So far Haye has had an easy time of it, he needs a couple of tough ones before getting in with Carl, at the moment my money says its a 50 / 50 fight.Posted: 10 Jul 2004, 10:41

iam not saying carl is light handed my freind but i do think hes past his best and i dont mean to dissrespect him in any wayye he can hit but 1st hes got to catch haye which isnt that easy.

It's weird because people were saying Audley should've moved up to this standard by like his second fight. And Audley isn't as naturally gifted as Haye IMHO.
But then Haye is young, has youth on his side. AH doesn't.

Yeah known about this for a few days now thanks to Ad.
Haye wins for me. While Carl hits hard and could no doubt hurt Haye I think Haye will deliver the goods. Carl was (lets be honest here) very lucky to beat Rothman and I looked very tired and hurt. The young pretender to take over from the seasoned veteran by KO. Haye should then look at a fight for a recognised World title as Haye really is pushing his career very fast. He is a breath of fresh air as far as I am concerned as he is fighting top fights now every time, since that Rasani joke he really has been very impressive in his attitude.

How did this one slip under my radar, I managed to avoid hearing anything about this fight being made, I thought Haye had someone else lined up.
I take on board John Shep's points regarding this fight. Carl is of course way more experienced. The telling factor however in this fight I think, is Haye's combination of speed and power. Rothmann was toying with Thompson for most of their fight, but lacked the one punch power to finish a hurt and tired Thompson off, he got cocky and got cold cocked just when he thought Thompson was finished.
Whilst Thompson has the power to hurt Haye, and anyone else in the division for that Matter, I think Haye will come out blazing and stop Thompson early.
It's a MASSIVE step up for Haye, but I think he's getting Thompson at the right time, and I am glad that he is taking this fight, the lad has balls, which is more than can be said for a lot of other British superstars. If Haye wins, then he's in the title picture as soon as he likes, if he loses, then he loses to a man who is a big step up, and it's no big deal.

I'm in two minds about this fight. Part of me thinks it could be and exciting fight with the almost certain promise of an exciting KO win.
But there is another part of me that doesn't want to see Thompson who has had a long hard career being put in with a young hungry banger like Haye.
If the fight does happen I see the the younger, faster and fresher Haye winning by KO in 5/6 rounds. Although with these two bangers anything could happen.

Mark Hobson was in the frame for the Thompson fight but Haye asked him to step aside. I hope Haye knows what he's doing. He still hasn't gone past four rounds as a pro and his progress reminds me of Errol Christie prior to the Mark Kaylor fight. Christie was finding it all so easy and fancied his chances of taking out Kaylor, who, like Thompson, was tough but had a suspect chin. Kaylor climbed up from early knockdowns and fought back to win. Thompson will also fight back hard, no matter what Haye throws at him. Yes, he's chinny. But he climbs up and keeps on winging.

yeah, this is why i'm so excited about it! Haye could lose. Good point about the 4 rounds. thompson could get hurt in this one. The punchbag routine in his last fight was upsetting to watch. I hope Haye gets him out with as few shots as possible and then carl retires. I can't see Carl lasting long enough to land his big shots. unless he's still got the heart aged 40 to keep getting off the canvas. i think the rothmann beating will prove to have finished him.

David Haye is my pick of the British fighters at the moment.
Haye is awesome when he is in the mood and the Cat I feel is in for a painful night.
David Haye needs this fight because Carl is a recognised name, but I will not enjoy watching this fight because I think Carl could get seriously hurt, Carl is an incredibly brave man and a fighter through and through, but he got lucky in his last fight which I feel has prolonged his career too long under false pretences.
Carl will not catch David like he caught Rothman, and he is brave enough to keep getting up to absorb more punishment, but Haye will stop him sooner rather than later.

Reeso of again,i aint seen Macca in with anybody yet at all.But it really aint a great fight...Hobson wants to fight and so does Haye, but Crappas team not even trying Thompson really is in the way ,very fortunate against Rothman so somebody has to disposses him of the title and its gonna be either Hobson or Haye,either fighter will do it the same way early KO.
